Re: TOS S3: The Paradise Syndrome

This first aired in the fall of 1968, six months after “2001:A Space Odyssey “ premiered, is it a coincident that the plot outline (an advanced race saves primative humanoids from extinction) is similar?

    Re: TNG S4: The Wounded

So the Phoenix is 300,000 kilometers from the Cardassian warship.......ummm, thats 186411.358 MILES!!! Nice to know phasers and photons can do that......or did the writers just figure nobody would notice? SMH

Re: TNG S5: Redemption, Part II

    @borusa
You might want tro translate that apparent diatribe....do you get drunk and THEN post?
I agrre with a lot of those who posted earlier that Pert 2 is trash compared to Part 1...a real let down! 2.5 stars at best!

    Re: TNG S3: Sarek

In the scene where Picard is with Beverly after the mind meld with Sarek, on the back of the chair Picard is sitting in......isnt that the sash the Mintakans presented to Picard? Ive watched this episode a dozen times and only noticed it today!

Re: TNG S5: Redemption, Part II

TOTALLY agree with Timothy from 10/15/17....1st part was FAR better than the 2nd....it's like the writers got you hooked, then fed you a trivial piece of mostly nonsense.....where did the Duras sisters go? Worf was gone for most of this episode. Guinan is a tad pretentious...even by her worthless character's standards. When and why would any Romulan commander willingly just beam aboard the Enterprise (or ANY Federation ship) for a tete a tete? I give this episode MAYBE 2.5 stars at BEST!

    Re: TNG S4: Remember Me

Oh boy, this episode was a stinker. 4.5 stars? Seemed like a leftover script from season 1 to me.

Maybe it's because my wife and I immediately predicted the premise after Wesley's experiment created a "mysterious flash" and then he turned around and his mom was gone. "I bet that flash just sucked Beverly into another universe or something" we said, practically simultaneously as the title fanfare started to play.

All mystery gone, the rest of the episode is unbearably frustrating and repetitive. Every time something else disappears from the universe there's a protracted reaction shot from overacting McFadden. It became comically predictable after a while. No one seems to be able to come up with the idea that "the warp bubble was confined to engineering ... *maybe it affected Beverly, who was in engineering at the time*." We got through the episode by speculating on the many ways the script could have used this premise better... "what if Riker's beard is suddenly gone in the next shot?"

Toward the end things got more interesting purely due to the script embracing its absurdity. I enjoyed the computer's responses about the nature of the universe, and the "design flaw" of the enterprise. Unfortunately, it's around then that we get the return of the traveler and oh look -- wonderboy wesley crusher might have some traveler abilities too! I thought we rid ourselves of the "wesley can do everything better than everyone" schlock after the first season. Oh well.

Beverly crusher finally gets a feature episode, and it's this pile of uninteresting filler. I feel bad for her.

    Re: TNG S3: The Survivors

You know I find it amazing.....all MOST of you do through EVERY episode on E VERY Trek franchise, is bitch, moan and groan about how, "If I did it, I would have done so and so"....for the love of God then find a backer and write, produce and direct your OWN damn episodes!!!! The rest of us want to simply enjoy what we have and not read your constant WHINING and CRITICISM!!!!!! Some of you have WAY too much time on your hands....and I have named a few in other posts. No wonder most people thing Trek fans are nuts...they have dealt with some of you too often!

Re: TNG S3: Sins of the Father

@David.........perhaps that is exactly what the writers wanted.....to leave it seemingly unfinished, We would see later in TNG and on DS9 continuations from where this episode left off. Personally, I think it was a clever thing to do....left us all wondering WHEN the family honor would be restored and on DS9, that family honor is referred to in multiple episodes.
I give this 4 stars BTW
Tony Todd is GREAT in this episode!!!!

    Re: TNG S6: Relics

I see Elliot raised his/her ugly head again to lambast another trek episode. Look, Elliot....WRITE a damn series YOURSELF, you sanctimonious blowhard!!!

    Re: TNG S5: I, Borg

I agree, Robert......but dont ask Elliot, as he seems to think only HE/SHE can write and cast the PERFECT episode. Talk about sanctimonious BS..that's all Elliot spews over and over in every episode and every series. One has to wonder if this person has a damn life!

    Re: TNG S2: The Emissary

I gotta agree with lizzzi......I rewatch every episode with K'Ehleyr...she has a certain "presence" and her sarcastic wit makes for a good watch!!!

Re: DS9 S3: The House of Quark

Sooooo..Keiko closes the school because there's only 2 students left.....that speaks volumes about her commitment!! So Jake and Nog can do independent study and she will tutor them? LMAO!! Wasnt this is EXACTLY why she wanted a school??? To avoid children having too much free time to get into trouble? Oh yes....let's let Jake and Nog run wild....AGAIN! This B-plot/storyline didnt cut it for me right from the get go.....as a teacher, I suppose it wouldnt, I suppose.

Re: DS9 S5: In the Cards

I agree with all of the above about Elliot. I only recently started to read these reviews and I have found that Eliot's posts are almost ALWAYS bordering on disparaging...and I am being kind in that description. Yes...I think TROLL is an absolute way to describe Elliot. Watch another show or maybe come up with your own...or direct one....each of your comments makes me ill

    Re: DS9 S1: The Forsaken

One thing I noticed.....Odo takes away the Dopterian, but leaves the stolen goods on the table in Quark's bar.....one would think as a perfectionist he would have seen to that

Re: DS9 S1: Move Along Home

I am rewatching DS9 on Netflix.....and came across this site...TG!!! I love the reviews and in particular, Elliot's....my sides were splitting...This is by far the most horrid to watch...thank goodness I can simply skip parts and "move along home",,,or rather to the end of this episode! Thanks for this site, Jammer!

    Re: DS9 S5: The Assignment

This gets 2.5 stars? I can't believe we watched the same episode.

You feel that "Let He Who is Without Sin..." insulted your intelligence. I felt the same about this trainwreck. It started with Keiko "dying" to prove she was taken over by a Pah'wraith. But it's clinched when Miles is trying to find a way to get the wraith out (everything would take too long - the wraith would kill Keiko first) and then does nothing after Keiko jumps off the Promenade balcony and is unconscious.

Those are just the most serious plot holes within the context of the story. I felt personally insulted by the whole show. Rom's character progression was the only slightly redeeming factor.

    Re: ENT S2: Vanishing Point

I thought the episode was boring. I thought it was boring when it was aired, and thought the same thing 10 years later.

It's not that I can't appreciate subtlety and intelligent writing. DS9 is my favourite Star Trek series by a mile, followed by TNG. It's just that nothing in this episode really grabbed me, and mostly I had figured out the twist of the show way before the supposed aliens boarded the ship.

I think Jammer and I have agree on a lot, but not on slow-moving episodes like this. My problem is the lack of build-up to something. There is no build-up or tension or a meaningful resolution. It's rather bland in execution, and the resolution more or less comes out of nowhere. Nothing is really resolved, except for maybe Hoshi's fear of the transporter. That's not enough to carry an episode though.

The episode reminds me more like 'Barge of the Dead' - it's kind of similar. Both plots are slow and boring, and the resolution feels rather weak and unimportant. Jammer liked that episode too. I didn't much care for either.

This episode reminds me a lot of TNG's 'Realm of Fear', which I think was a much more entertaining version of this type of episode. Obviously the Enterprise crew has to go through the motions of it too I guess, but I ultimately found a 'Ream of Fear' to be much more engaging.

    Re: ENT S2: The Crossing

My instincts tell me this episode would have been a lot more enjoyable if it didn't involve yet another alien crew taking over the ship. If the show had instead focused on first contact with a non-corporeal species, and created some more inventive form of conflict or character development instead, it would have been a much more enjoyable show. As is, it's predictable drivel.

At least nobody was acting immature and childish in this episode, so that's something I guess. You can never to be sure when the next time that mature adults will be acting on screen in Season 2.

    Re: ENT S2: Cease Fire

This episode is just bad on so many levels. Instead of giving lots of time and dedication to seeing Andorians and Vulcans on screen, the show instead finds lots of time for mindless action sequences, leaving all of the potentially interest conflicts and characters out of the story.

I also find Archer's gloaty behaviour infront of Soval to be rather immature. This is the first time humanity can step up as demonstrate that they are ready to be a mature member of the interstellar community, yet Archer prioritizes gloating to Soval everything else. This is the spokesman for humanity? This is the best we could find?

Even when Archer gets serious about this role for humanity when he speaks about it to Phlox, it doesn't come as sincere in the slightest. The acting is kind of terrible in this scene from him. It's not coming from a place maturity or centeredness. It sounds like he has something to proof to his unaccepting dad.

It's really disappointing when the series actually does an episode that could develop into something wonderful, but instead turns out to be total rubbish. What a wasted opportunity. I don't know how the writers can live with the quality of their work.

    Re: ENT S2: Singularity

And now that I've watched a lot more of the episode, I realize the point of the Singularity is having an effect on the crew. Some of the following scenes are funny, while others are a bit annoying or crinch-worthy.

Still, the Singularity doesn't excuse prioritizing the captain's chair and things like this, because that happened before they set a course to investigate in the first place.

And if memory serves me, this childish behavioural problem doesn't stop until season 3, where Trip and Archer over-compensate and go in the other direction, unnaturally.

    Re: ENT S2: Singularity

I am only 5:30 into the episode, but I'm already starting to see a big trend with the direction of the characters in season 2, and I think this probably what disgusted people so much about the series so much.

In this episode, Archer seems to care more about his chair than the impulse manifolds. He also can't take responsibility for writing a preface for a book he agreed to write, and even wants T'Pol to write it for him.

Reed, in the last episode, misplaced the communicator, and has been generally acting fairly immature many times in the season. Same with Trip.

A Night in Sickbay assassinates all of the characters.

I think the writers making the characters not behave like adults has had a tremendous impact on the quality of the series. Yes, the plots and safe, and many episodes are familiar territory. The show doesn't take risks, and most of the writing is average. But none of those problems are nearly as problematic as the childish behaviour we see from the Captain and other characters.

To be honest, the characters were written better in Season 1. Season 1 isn't that bad. It's not great, but it's not bad. Season 2 is the mark of when things really got bad. It's so difficult to separate these childish behaviours from the characters when things try to get "serious". It has permanently destroyed the credibility of the characters, and the enjoyment of the rest of the show.

The humour the writers are going for isn't even worth it most of the time, so they are assassinating the characters for basically no payoff.

I didn't know why the show was so bad back in 2002/2003 - I thought it was just bland storytelling, or plots that didn't cover the issues and plot lines I would have expected. But now all of that doesn't matter to me anymore - mostly because my expectations have been crushed already - I see that the real problem is behaviour these characters exhibit. I just don't like them.
