.......a better treatment of societal prejudice than "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield".......it was nice to see Jeff Corey as the villain.......the image of a beautiful woman being tortured in an evening gown was pretty surreal.......presumably the white mini-dress was issued as standard prison garb............between the make-up, the hair, the jewelry and the dress the actress that played Droxine must have felt like she was in a straight jacket ! .......however, she did have excellent posture.......

I've always liked this one. It's the first episode of TOS that I ever saw. I was 12 years old and watched it with my father the night it was broadcast in '67. Just a footnote that no one has mentioned.......the casualty/survivor the Enterprise crew finds on the destroyed outpost (and takes back to the ship) is played by the same actor that plays Loki in the 3rd season episode "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield".

The cut to McCoy when Cogley first suggests that the computer may be the villain is sweet.......

.......the actor that played Finney turns up in the noir classic "Out of the Past"......

.......Joan Marshall was lovely.......in a brief (and great) hollywood season, she with Hal Ashby were noted L.A. demimondains.......her fictionalized personal life formed the basis of the script for "Shampoo".......which reputedly pissed her off.......

Don't get me started on Elisha Cook.......love that guy.......

Just a note: The person in command of a ship is always called captain no matter what rank is formally held. For example "Captain" Bligh was a lieutenant.

I liked that Worf's parents were plainly Jewish. They would naturally sympathize with Worf's "outsider" status. I thought their family scenes together were quite touching. His request for some of Mom's Pie was a "humanizing" touch, sweet.

I imagine vineyards will look pretty much the same in a couple hundred years as they do now. Bottles? Maybe not. Corks or screw tops?

I like this episode pretty well. A bit precious at times but affecting. I agree the Admiral was a weak point.

Was anyone else reminded of the TOS episode "Requiem for Methuselah" ? I couldn't help but think of Spock's line near the end of that about the joys of love making her (Rayna, the android) human and the agonies of love destroying her. Lal had something of the same conflict. However, this was a better treatment of a similar theme.

I'm with the dissenters on this one. Many of my reasons align with those already stated so I won't repeat at length but to name a few....galactic fate hinging on Guinan's intuition? Sorry, no way. All of the "love" stories on ST proceed at warp speed, not credible (again) Riker vs Picard = missed opportunity big time !

.....I would have appreciated an episode that flashed back to New Caprica to fill in the back stories and skipped all the boxing crap.....

.....This series has had some wonderful moments up to this point.....Action, graphic effects, music, writing, direction, acting (not necessarily in that order) have often been gratifying emotionally and dramatically.....having said that, I think I'm starting to lose it with the series.....

.....I had difficulty sitting through this episode.....I just can't care about Apollo and Starbuck.....WTOWT?.....siblings?.....lovers?.....what's at stake?.....Bupkus!.....

.....Tyrol has been an immature jerk since the mini-series.....no wonder Adama felt like kicking his ass.....but stepping into a boxing ring with someone thirty years younger simply isn't credible and his point in doing so seemed pretty muddled.....

.....and Dee.....beautiful woman, dumb character.....she's been a doormat far too long.....she just comes off as a masochist.....might have been more interesting if she had been "sacrificed" instead of Billy.....

.....and (apart from this particular episode) the drift of the Cylon mumbo-jumbo about God and re-birth, personal identity, "will I ever know love?" has become tiresome.....

.....too many of these latter episodes seem to just mark time until the inevitable "living together, Cylon and Human, in harmony with the universe la-dee-do-da-day" conclusion.....

.....I hope the series takes a new turn.....it's turning into a soap opera.....for me.....

.....I suppose I should wait until the series ends to comment but here goes all the same.......ENOUGH with the Ezri plots.....who cares!!.....Dax was never a compelling character (except in the looks dept.).....bringing "her" back was ill considered....her screen time would have been better spent on characters we've become invested in over six seasons......the dead ought to have been left in peace....

......overall, I think it was a mistake to introduce Worf to DS9......an awful lot (if not all) of the Worf character development TNG worked so long to establish was pretty carelessly swept away for the sake of a ratings boost in the 4th season....the Klingon story arcs in TNG were some of that series episodes.....(Alexander Eps excepted) I've never felt Worf's presence on DS9 added anything significant and Kira and Odo's characters were stunted in the process.....

.....there have been some very good stand alone episodes this season and last but the war has become as tiresome as all the Bajoran religious mumbo jumbo....Sisko as emissary is another less than compelling story arc.....Kai Winn + a Dukat no one recognizes?.....please......and where's Quark?.....lately his brief appearances are among the best written and acted bits of business.....his speech to Ezri on the inevitability of Worf's return was well done.....

.....my overall impression is DS9 is prime Trek....However, at this point the series feels a bit "lost in space".......

Trek Meets LeCarre.....and well done....glad somebody mentioned the connection earlier.....it's certainly there....The Spy Who Came In From The Cold.....The scene at the end between Ross and Bashir when Bashir is outraged at the sacrifice of Cretak recalls the film version and Richard Burtons "who do you think spies are"....? speech......Bashir was Claire Bloom to Ross' Richard Burton....."How big does a cause have to be before you kill your friends?".....great episode, great script, great cast....top rating.....

....DS9 meets "The Edge".....

......I thought switching back and forth from the "A" story to the "B" story lacked balance......the Nog/Jake bickering tended to trivialize the Quark/Odo life and death struggle we're supposedly invested in....

......nice location shooting tho.....

.....There are quite a few complaints in these threads re: Quark and the Ferengi.....I agree to some extent.... the Ferengi episodes are among my least favorite.....I attribute that to weak writing......

......that said, Armin Shimerman deserves a shout out, not only for this episode but for his work throughout the series....he consistently makes hay out of thin material....I put him up there with Rene Aberjonois and Colm Meaney as best of cast.....

......This episode didn't hold my attention.....

.....Very enjoyable episode......one of the incidental pleasures of Star Trek is seeing the return of actors that have appeared over the years in different roles.....I was pleased to see Joseph Ruskin reprise his role of Tumek from "House of Quark"......

.....his appearances in TOS date from 1968 in "The Gamesters of Triskelion"..........DS9's "Improbable Cause" featured him as an informant....and he's found in in episodes of "Voyager" and "Enterprise" as well.....just a footnote but 40+ years along it's this kind of detail that satisfies......
