    Re: TOS S3: Turnabout Intruder

I liked this episode. For its time, its a liberal portrayal of women, to even suggest a women can be a captain is a big step forward. Its also Roddenberry's revenge, because he wanted a female second in command, so that if Kirk is out of commission, the women would take over. The network nixed the idea, hence this production.

Re: New Trek series coming in 2017

Here’s a guide to help you guys out:

If you want to know what will be on the new show, re-watch these episodes:

    ST: TNG = Sub Rosa
    ST: VOY = Virtuoso
ST: ENT = A Night In Sickbay

If you want to know if you should spend money on CBS, re-watch these episodes:

ST: DS9 = Profit and Lace
ST: DS9 = Ferengi Love Songs
    ST: DS9 = Bar Association

Please stop mentioning my name. Because I'm polite I have to come back, so you know I read your comments.

Re: New Trek series coming in 2017

    @Robert

Ok, I understand. You love Star Trek, hate CBS and your either poor or cheap. Gotcha.

Note: I have to keep posting back, just to be polite, so if you keep referencing me, then this conversation is forced to continue.

Re: New Trek series coming in 2017

    @Robert

If you like Star Trek so much, why don't you pay for it. Paying a cable bill or memberships on the internet is not the same as paying directly for something you love.

Besides, if you give some of their shows a chance, I'm sure you could find something else you like. It's called shifting your memberships.

One year watch HBO. The next watch CBS. The next, watch Netflix. Therefore you see everything, but not at the same time, and you have time to discover strange new show, seek out new episodes and new characters, to boldly go where every commercial has gone before.

It's not TV shows your discovering, but the very nature of possibilities, just like Q said to Picard after saving his fish, Mr. Goldstein.

Re: New Trek series coming in 2017

In the modern age, everyone wants everything for free, and no one wants to pay hard working actors, producers, etc.

Just like people want free pensions, free welfare, free health care, free roads, free water, free electric, free schools, free gasoline, free, free, free...

and then they wonder why families are getting more poor.

Re: New Trek series coming in 2017

    @ Skeptical

Good points. Your comments are better then the owner of this website, Jamahl.

The new Trek will most likely be more violent and sexy, and less technical, most of the enemies will be absorbed into a bigger Federation, and of course new threats will show up as always.

After 2 or 3 seasons, it will end for another two decades or so, because older Trek fans will repeatedly insult the show to death.

Better to just let Trek die, but when there's money to be made, it never ends.

    Re: BSG S3: Maelstrom

I felt bored watching this, so started to play chess. I didn't even see her death or Adama crying, but now I'm going to re-watch the last 5 minutes or so. Peace out.

    Re: VOY S7: Endgame

    @ Robert

    Kazon Space:

They were going through Kazon space to gather supplies, because with a less advanced species they were safer, and knew there could be bigger problems, like cy-borgs, space dino and the WWE Rock, Dwayne Johnson.

    Getting Home:

Barclay invented a hyper fast ship, going at Dr Crusher's Warp 14, and went to get them. Voyager was towed back home by this ship.

Sisko gave them the info for the fast ship, by coming back from the wormhole with new info from the prophets.

Re: TNG S1: Skin of Evil

Dax's death should have been more like this, she should have just died with one of those sparky computers going off, rather then the big villain killing her in church.

    Re: TNG S7: Dark Page

The reason for lots of Troi is most likely that she looks more attractive here then in the older episodes.

Better face, better shape, better makeup, for some reason the longer the show went on the better she looked, until the movies.

    Re: DS9 S2: Shadowplay

    Forgot to add:

A stuffed toy is NOT REAL, and NOT ALIVE, however to a child ( and some adults ), if you have love towards a stuffed toy, it is real and alive, because your feelings make-it-so.

Android, Borg, Hologram, Q and sex-bot (wink) = ALIVE
People on internet / stuffed animals = also ALIVE ??? I don't know.

    Re: DS9 S2: Shadowplay

According to Captain Picard, in order to be alive “brain wise” you have to have these elements to be considered a life-form: Intelligence, Self Aware and Consciousness:

    Therefore as applied to holograms:

Arguments for being alive as a hologram.

    Intelligence

    - How much computer memory is devoted to storing memories and raw data.

    Self Awareness

has to be aware they are a hologram.
has to be aware they were created as a hologram.
    programmed with personal memories.
self determination, allowed to make choices from complex situations, not just simply programming.

    Consciousness

Awareness of inner self ( which nobody seems to define this precisely )
    Dreams, Ambitions, Emotions, Goals
    ( not simply survival )

    HOWEVER:

Arguments against being alive as a hologram.

    Intelligence

versus a delete button for data and memory.

    Self Awareness

its easy to manipulate their programming.

easy to install fake memories, or manipulate an entire day.

most holograms are choosing from a holograph reality, therefore cannot interact with the wider universe.

    Consciousness

Is dreams, goals, emotions, friendships just a simulation or real.

This part is extremely difficult to understand and too long a conversation.

    Final Verdict:

The more complex the program, the more “alive” the hologram.

    or

If you, as a person, feel something like love or friendship, then the hologram is alive because of your feeling toward it.

“Are you the dreamer or a part of someone’s dream.”

Re: DS9 S7: What You Leave Behind

Too many goodbyes, first the bar scene, then the montage scene, then individual goodbyes, then the Jake scene, and finally saying goodbye to the station fadeaway.

They should have saved the montage for the end, then cut to a quiet scene of Jake looking out the window, wormhole thing.

On a side note: The Jem Hadar are ordered to let their god be taken as a prisoner. She ordered them to stand down, but it just seems wrong. She and Odo should have went home together, then some Vorta should have stayed on the station to make sure the Alpha/Gamma Quads are completely separate - but peaceful.

    Who writes this crap?

    Re: DS9 S7: Chimera

A changeling was pretending to be Martok, so now the guy who played Martok is a changeling. LOL.

    More serious:

Is Odo ruining Kira's life. She claims she loves the O'Brien child, and seemed to want to be a mommy. Maybe Odo should shapeshift and pretend to be his own kid. Creepy family reunion anyone? LOL.

At some point down the road, Kira will leave Odo just so some guy can get his jollies making babies with her, and given she looks older, that time is soon. Then, a heartbroken Odo will go nuts and hate the solids for life, tells the Jem'Hadar to go genocidal, and the galaxy is completely destroyed until someone finally destroys the Dominion once and for all...

... the BORG vs Dominion ... end game ...

Re: DS9 S6: In the Pale Moonlight

What I meant by the above in one sentence is:

" People want to pretend to be moral, but secretly have blood on their hands, and blame the group rather then themselves, so they believe their own propaganda about being good people. "

Re: DS9 S6: In the Pale Moonlight

I know some hate political comments on real life events but...

The government is protecting your money ( oil backed currency ), oil supply and world control, by controlling and manipulating its "Dominion" the middle east.

You can blame the government for its deceptions ( just like you can blame Sisko for millions of Romulan deaths ) but...

... you have to allow government " to do the things you cannot do, the 'darker things' " ( like Garak )

Trek has always been about social commentary, and the best line ever in Trek is from Quark during the station battle - something like 'morals only apply in times of happiness and peace, people become more savage when they are on the brink of desperation'

    Conclusion:

Sisko - acting like the American people during Iraq - moralizing evil acts by punching Garak and blaming him

Garak - American government - doing what is necessary and no caring about morality, but reminding Sisko, our way of life cannot be preserved without immoral actions.

Re: DS9 S5: Children of Time

    I'm curious about the sex.

If they knew that children and a civilization is supposed to be born, then wouldn't O'Brien be "forced" to have kids with that ensign woman, just for the purpose of popping out babies?

Then, to preserve genetic diversity, the crew would have to mix their breeding around.

I can imagine Odo drawing up plans about who is to boom-boom who, in order to bring order to chaos, and everyone justs drops their trousers while Odo records everything for orderly note taking.

Maybe I'm sick and need mental help, but all I kept thinking when watching this ep is ...

    SEXXX

    Re: DS9 S4: The Visitor

    @ MsV

    He did ruin his life:

    Stopped being a writer.
    Lost his wife.
Years of study in advanced physics ( even though he doesn't come across as very bright )

... I admit its a sad circumstance. If someone close to me died, then reappeared after years apart, I would feel sad. But, possibly, mothing could be done.

... say hi, feel sad and mourn again, then leave it. Sisko himself wanted more for Jake.

    Re: VOY S2: The Thaw

If you are sitting next to a friend who's never watched Start Trek, and you tell them this is one of your favourite shows, and this comes on...

... then put a bag over your head and bow in shame.
... then admit that you were adopted as a child and have issues.
... tell them you hate star trek and try to act "cool".
... never speak to that friend again, because you lost all credibility.

    Worst Episode Ever

Also - if fear is this much fun, then The Exorcist and those devil horror movies like The Grudge should be a laugh riot to you.

The only thing to fear is ( not fear itself ), but watching this episode and LIKING it, because its the proof of what your life has come to, and if you liked this episode then ... that's just sad.

Also - cute midget chick in a ballerina dress. I'm sure that is an accurate portrayal of the future.

    Re: DS9 S4: The Visitor

I admit I did cry long ago, but now I found it kinda boring and unrealistic. Why would Jake ruin his whole life over ghost dad. and after so long apart, if he sees his dad reappear, why not just say hi and a quick conversation, rather then pine away. Its like seeing a friend you haven't seen in a long time, just say hi and get over it.

Still - its the best Jake episode, and the best part is, Cirroc Lofton is hardly in it. I guess that's why Jake "fans" love it.

    Re: DS9 S3: Family Business

I think the hatred for the Ferengi is because they look so different from humans. You can't call it "racism", but in Star Trek, the human-aliens are always similar to humans, but the more bizzare ones are always evil. The Ferengi, because they looked comical, were downgraded from evil to greedy ( a type of evil ).

Therefore the real reflection of human nature is humans are still racist, but in a PC world everyone has to pretend not to be, so Star Trek is an outlet for racial aggression.

    As follows:

Klingons - black coloured people are violent

Ferengi - jews are greedy and comical

Romulans/Cardassians/Borg - too controlling and not tolerant of "human" rights like americans.

Federation - The ONLY truly moral AMERICAN types, who lead other aliens ( or human races ) into the right path to morality ???

As Quark mentions later, if the Federation knew struggling, they wouldn't be so moral. As for humans currently, most of the problems are caused by Americans keeping slaves in China, yet we expect them to act moral, yet ship cheap goods to us ???

Or Americans saying Saudis are cruel, yet we expect their oil to support our monetary system ???

Yet without cheap chinese goods shipped to us by Saudi oil, suddenly Americans are immoral.

    Quark = TRUTH
