Oh my. Brian S, your Changeling Space Hitler just about did me in. I am wiping away the tears still. And Taron, what a beautiful story. I have also found that deep love can get a simple start. I think sometimes people growing alongside one another eventually find themselves reaching the plane of understanding that brings true love. I agree that this episode is quite a departure but sometimes that's a good thing. You are allowed to fast forward if you want but then you'd miss the fun these usually serious performers are obviously having.

I think this episode was a nice delving into the past of DS9's most interesting sociopath and how the truth of Nerys' past wasn't as cut and dry as she hoped. I never got the feeling she could change what happened since that was not her purpose in consulting the orb. She wished to see what really happened. However the truth wasn't what she assumed it to be. This was once again an episode that showed what a person can make into 'normal' on a day to day basis. And often even when under duress those choices would not make them proud to look back on later. If not out of love for her mother, Nerys may have recognized how close she was to this type of life herself not long ago during the reoccupation of DS9 when choosing to not go through with the bombing.My biggest issue was the choice of a child that didn't even have brown eyes to portray Nerys as a child? Wha?!

I think this was yet another chance to appreciate Colm Meaney's acting abilities. He always does an effortless job. It's a shame that he has never gotten an award for his talent of improving what could be lesser material in the hands of others. And any man who keeps a cat can't be all bad.

I admit that somehow I missed this episode when it was originally on. I enjoyed it for the most part but the big kefuffle caused by Kurn's wipe Interests me. I understand that the Klingon's value their family honor above all but Kurn repeatedly told Worf that his life was in his hands. He could decide what to do with/for him. Despite Worf's comment to Dax that she is not Klingon in many ways he is not either. He understands that Kurn is not done living despite the removal of their family name, land, and honor. That indeed, depending on the shifting tide of politics that still this may all be returned to them in the future. He chooses life for his brother although in a way that enables Kurn to leave his depression behind him. This is a display of love that should be completely understandable to anyone.

Re: DS9 S4: Paradise Lost

I am enjoying watching this series on Netflix from the beginning. I only ever saw it from season 3 to the end of 6 when it was 1st on. As dated as Jammer's critiques are I am in agreement with quite a few and the followup commentary of fellow fans broadens the view of many episodes. I am amused about the derogatory comments regarding the acting chops of Avery Brooks. Not everyone in the world (or in this case...the universes) carries themselves or speaks in the same way. He is a bit bombastic in language and physicality but I don't think this means he is a poor actor. Do all these fans bicker about William Shatner? Because let's be honest, he comes across very similarly. And his career has not suffered for it by my estimation. If anything he has been very successful because if it. If you find the acting in a show so deplorable then don't watch it and let the people who do appreciate it enjoy it as the entertainment it was meant to be.
