Setting a Bookmark

Information

In the comment stream, within each comment box in the upper-right corner there is an [X] indicating your ability to bookmark that comment as your "already read" point.

When you do this, that comment and all older ones will be hidden from the view. (The bookmark is saved as a browser cookie, so this is only remembered within your particular browser/device, and your browser must be accepting cookies.) All comments newer than the bookmarked point will remain visible, and those older will be hidden. This allows you to later easily pick up where you left off and see only those comments you haven't read.

You can clear the bookmark at any time and reveal all comments by clicking the "clear bookmark" button at the top of the comment stream, or by using the link within the search/tools box.

How the bookmark applies to search results

  • By default, the bookmarked point does not apply to comment search results. When you do a search, the bookmark will be ignored, and all results of your search query, including those older than the bookmarked point, will display. (Also, to avoid confusion, the [X] button is not shown in the search result comments when performing a default search.)
  • However, you can choose to have the bookmark applied to your search results by checking the "Apply bookmark to search results" checkbox before clicking "Go" to perform your search. When this option is enabled, your bookmarked point will be applied to the search results. This is useful if you want to use your bookmark to track through long search results of a lot of comments.
  • Only one bookmark can be set at a time. The bookmark is simply a timestamp marker stored in your browser and referenced when the comments are shown, with anything older than the timestamp marker hidden. The same bookmark will continue to apply to your general view and your search view (if the "Apply bookmark to search results" checkbox is checked) until you either set a new bookmark or clear it.
