Re: DSC S2: If Memory Serves

The Cage has always been my all time favorite TOS episode (technically I guess I saw The Menagerie but whatever) so I was hard wired to be receptive to this on the basis of that opener. I loved the fade from TOS Pike to DSC Pike; the actors look more alike than I'd realized. It's wild how much I'm loving Mount as Pike given how awful I thought he was in that Marvel show that was so bad I've already forgotten the name. I guess he's an actor who needed some actual words to say to really sell a performance? I don't know but he's perfect casting for me so far on DSC.

Re: ORV S2: Blood of Patriots

I'm super forgiving of this show's warts; probably more than I should be. For example, they had me in this one the second I saw Mackenzie Astin. Totally sold by way of my first 80s fangirl crush. It's not that I don't see the flaws the rest of you do. It's that they don't really impact my enjoyment of the show. In another series they might but I'm pretty easy going on Seth MacFarlane's trek fanfic. It's exactly what I need it to be.

Re: ORV S2: Primal Urges

Well if the rumours are true Alarra is off the show soon but fortunately LaMarr had a lot of development in the last 2 episodes of season 1. Who is really lacking right now is our helmsman, sadly I think he will be a character who won't get a lot of development on a Seth Macfarlane show. He's there to hold up the scenery and be comic relief.

Re: ORV S2: Primal Urges

This show is definitely finding its legs. Theyve got a hook now with Bortus a very complex and compelling character with a hilariously deadpan sense of humour.

Re: ORV S2: Ja'loja

Loved it. Glad the show is seizing on the blood in the water that is STD and bringing the show in a more relevant direction.

Re: DSC S1: The Wolf Inside

One thing I'm hoping for (but suspecting won't come about after this episode) with Tyler/Voq is that, going back to the BSG analogy for the character, they sort of meet Boomer and Athena in the middle, if you see what I mean. After last week, I'd thought that we were ultimately going to see Tyler trying to fight against his Voq persona more. I figured that was part of the point of the conversation between him and Burham regarding always defending each other. And I genuinely like the idea of the character being faced with two entirely different but equally strong emotions about Michael.

To me, this episode seems to take the character more in a Boomer direction (ultimately siding with the Cylons or Klingons in this case). And I'm down for that too. But I still wouldn't be surprised if his mental battles between personalities are not over just yet. I certainly hope they aren't. For all that I am enjoying the show, warts and all, it would be a shame to reduce that character conflict so quickly. I haven't been so keen on comparing the show directly to previous Trek entries. However such a quick reduction of internal conflict definitely makes me think of VOY and how the two separate crews thing went away after the pilot.

Re: DSC S1: Despite Yourself

I'm wondering if Ash won't end up siding with the Federation in the long run; he doesn't even remember being Voq and his reaction reminded me of Boomer being activated in Season 1 of BSG.

Re: ORV S1: Old Wounds

Despite its many warts, I kind of loved this. McFarlane gets to star in his own trek fanfic and that's charming. It wasn't great. But I dig it anyway.

Re: TNG S6: Second Chances

I always think of this episode (and DS9's Defiant) when I'm rewatching Farscape's season 3 (with the duplicate Chrichtons). For me, Scape took everything I loved about my favorite sci fi and either turned it on its ear or made it better. This is pretty much a shining example of that. Finding out that there was some consideration of either killing off Will Riker or having both Rikers around for an episode or two is going to make that connection even stronger for me.

Re: DS9 S7: 'Til Death Do Us Part

@Elliott - Sisko's final task isn't the only task he has, he also has to assist in the rebuild of Bajor and a big part of that task is actually finding the celestial temple. Its quite simple, and totally missing the point, to consider Sisko's "ultimate task" as the only reason he has for being.
As for the Prophets being able to see the future, well, the best I can do is tell you to rewatch The Reckoning. There are clearly events which have an effect on the Pah-wraith/Prophets that can't be seen in advance, and the outcome is not assured.

Re: DS9 S7: The Dogs of War

I can't believe no one has said this yet but the Ferengis first ever episode on TNG was called "The Last Outpost" which guest starred "Armin Shimmerman" and now Quarks Bar is "The Last Outpost" of the Ferengi Alliance - brilliant.

Re: DS9 S7: 'Til Death Do Us Part

Something I absolutely adore in this episodw is that its Dukats peptalk to Damar which sets him on the path to the Cardassian resistance with Dukats two biggest enemies(aside of Sisko of course), Garak and Kira. Its so intricately woven and delicious.

Re: BSG S4: Faith

One thing I found really interesting in this episode was how it resonated similarly to what you describe amongst people who are without any real world religious faith. I participate in several Agnostic/Atheist message boards and on one such board we often talk about the sci-fi we enjoy. It's true that there has never been a shortage of sci-fi that delves into faith and belief, but I rarely see a group consensus in atheist circles regarding interpretation of those themes within the story. This episode seemed to defy that trend. Very interesting stuff.

Re: TNG S3: The Best of Both Worlds, Part I

I distinctly remember having to wait for months (longer than the norm at the time for some reason) for the resolution to this. Locutus of Borg will never not haunt me.
