Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
There are different types of revelation. ;)
I admit that ST '09 was no masterpiece. It's just that after waiting thirty years to get another fix of the Perfect Trek Experience (and I was BADLY addicted to the stuff for a while), I realized it wasn't going to happen, and the most valuable thing I could hope to get out of the latest entries in the franchise was a fun two hours I could share with my kids, which '09 delivered along with more TOS fan service than I expected.
YMMV

@Lewis Van Atta: Admittedly, there are a lot of things to nit-pick in ST '09: Kirk's meteoric promotion (though that is a common problem in hero's journey-type stories), weak villain, the proximity of Delta Vega to Vulcan, ..., but they don't get in the way of my enjoyment of the film as a whole. And Zachary Quinto's Spock and Zoe Saldana's Uhura were revelations! My affection for the characters and the original actors made me ready for disappointment, but Quinto pulled off the impossible task of embodying Spock without mimicking Nimoy, and Saldana put more life into Uhura than Nichelle Nichols was given the chance to over twenty-five years.

Re: Star Trek Into Darkness
I'm with you, SlackerInc.
J.J. Abrams first ST film was a very welcome injection of new energy into the franchise. I especially liked what the new actors did with the Kirk and Spock characters: new and interesting interpretations but respectful of Shatner and Nimoy's work. Personally, I thought the time travel plot was gratuitous and would have preferred a clean break with the previous canon.
STID was just mediocre, and the homage to TWOK half-assed.

Perhaps the year-and-counting that has passed between the release of STID and Jammer's review is a review in itself: The film in insufficiently compelling of commentary either positive or negative.

Happy New Year 2014 to Jammer and all Jammer fans.
harpohara, unless you and Jammer made a contract for him to write the review, he's got no responsibility to you or any of the rest of us. Come down off your high horse and wait for the review (which may never come) if you're curious what Jammer thinks, or stop visiting the site if you're bored. Your choice.
