Re: TNG S3: The Defector

Typical American bullcrap at the end though. The future will be so nice if we can just find enough people willing to betray their homeworlds.
Babylon 5 has a much better grasp on what the humanity will look like and do 4 centuries from now.

Re: TNG S2: Time Squared

I liked Picard's loss of self-confidence. That was old fashioned drama, sitting easily with scifi. Quality stuff. Patrick Stewart is a fine actor. I liked that scene where Riker and other guys enter the shuttle bay with the strange shuttle being pulled in, and then it's in, and the tractor beam is shut down. It's an ordinary sequence of events but it has great dramatic value in anticipation of the unknown drama ahead. Whoever directed this episode seems to have done a better job than usual.

Re: TNG S2: The Measure of a Man

This is the best TNG episode I've seen so far. Admittedly, I've only seen season 1 and half of 2. Nonetheless it is very compelling and it suspended my disbelief just fine. I don't care to dissect mainstream scifi television in great detail. Something will inevitably fail to add up. But overall, uncharacteristically for the said mainstream television, this episode actually raised some deep issues, and it was done well, in its own context. It actually got me thinking, what is life? No, really? Seems very easy but I have no more concrete answers to that, than I do to the questions, "what is the universe", or, "what is the earth's core really like".
All in all, this was good television.

Re: TNG S2: The Icarus Factor

If this is a good episode, then why did the outfits Commander Riker and his father wore for that futuristic martial arts thing remind me of Easter Bunnies? I just could't get over the headgear, it looked like bunny ears to me.

Re: TNG S1: Coming of Age

Is it just me or did they use the same orange thing "planet" prop thing for this and the previous two episodes?

Re: TNG S1: Where No One Has Gone Before

I wonder if the rest of the series explored this monumental find, that you can travel billions of light years in a second if you think hard about it. They can't have ignored it later on.

Re: TNG S1: The Last Outpost

Just watched this last night and searched for reviews to see if anyone else thought this first season was godawful and whether to expect better things and watch on, or quit.
Yeah first half quite watchable, second half horrible. Important episode though for introducing the Ferengi. Was that Armin Shimerman? So he was there from the start. On DS9 I thought he was magnificent. He pretty much played the role with his eyes and the tone of voice under all that makeup.
