Re: ORV S1: Firestorm
I just realized that Kitan is the Barclay of this series. Any story revolving around her is forever going to be about how she's a basket-case. It seems bizarre that she's been given so much authority. I hated that she wasn't court-martialed for wildly inappropriate use of her ability to override the Captain's authority should he become a security risk. You'd think just invoking such a thing should automatically provoke an investigation by higher-ups that ends with either the Captain or the Security Chief being booted out of service.

Yet another example of money not existing in the Federation...except when it does. There's never been any consistency on the subject and it's a minor pet-peeve of mine.

I've always rolled my eyes at aliens with drastically different appearances finding human women attractive. A giant amoeba thing should find a human women grotesque.

I like cat videos, and little slices of ordinary life aboard the Enterprise, so I didn't mind the "padding" at all.

Shouldn't the interior of a nocturnal species be darker? Like moonlight-level tops? It seemed awfully bright on that ship for creatures with eyes that should presumably be similar to an owl's.

Re: DSC S1: Lethe
I was rewatching the old TNG series on Netflix, when I ran across "Gambit" in season 7, which had a terrorist faction of Vulcans who viewed humans as inferior and wanted Vulcan to secede, so the "Logic Extremists" actually had its roots in TNG.

Re: TNG S6: Suspicions
Others have already said it, but I have to repeat how incredulous it is that a Ferengi scientist wouldn't be respected. Science is incredibly profitable. I can see a Ferengi scientist being more concerned with patents than a human scientist, but the idea that they wouldn't even exist is absurd.
The whole no autopsy thing seems very out-of-character for a Ferengi as well. No autopsies means it is easier for someone to murder you and rob your corpse of every spec of latinum. No way would that be part of their culture. The DS9 story where Ferengi sell their body-parts makes way more sense.

Re: TNG S6: Face of the Enemy
Why doesn't Picard order shields up as he's tracking what he suspects, correctly, to be a cloaked enemy ship? The whole scene seems to be contrived to create drama, but under the circumstances appears to be a major plot-hole.

Never really understood the complaints about Sirtis. I always thought Frakes was the weakest actor in the show. Troi kind of sucked as a character, because she seemed more like a plot-device that worked as well or poorly as the script needed her to. Need an immediate insight in the villains motive for the plot to move forward? BOOM! Troi gives it. This week's plot is a mystery that would be destroyed by an effective empath? Troi's power doesn't work for some reason. Frankly I don't think Betazoids were a well-designed species. They're much too powerful except when they completely blow. The nature of her character meant there wasn't a whole lot Sirtis could do with her. But that's a writing problem, not an acting problem.

Re: TNG S6: Chain of Command, Part I
The scene with the Ferengi was cringey and eyeroll-worthy. I've never liked the trope that aliens with drastically different appearances would lust for human women. Ferengi lusting for humans isn't quite as absurd as the blob on the Orville lusting for humans, but it's still immensely absurd.

I came away with a renewed appreciation for Bakula's acting skills. There were a couple of moments when he looked coldly murderous, and he conveyed that with nothing but an expression.

I didn't like that they just killed all of those Vulcans.
First off, just because Phlox can't immediately miracle up a cure doesn't mean that a cure couldn't be found by someone else given years of study.
Second, even if they are truly uncurable, they belong in an insane asylum being made as comfortable as possible. They don't deserve to be summarily executed.
It all just feels very handwavey so they can make this a one-and-done episode when the issues involved aren't one-and-done at all.

Re: VOY S3: Scorpion, Part I
I find my enjoyment of this episode is diminished a bit by the memory of the next meeting with this species, where they pretend to be humans and are reasonable beings open to negotiation. It reduces some of the menace, and makes Janeway seem retroactively even more insane.
