Re: TNG S4: Night Terrors

The Mom-watch of TNG continues with this frankly embarrassing episode. Episodes like First Contact made me proud to introduce my mom to Trek yet shows like Night Terrors make me cringe to watch with my mom. As if she's thinking "He likes THIS?" Macabre feeling. However we both got a great laugh out of Troi's constant, pointless "WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUU"s when all she had to do was say "detonate chemical now." Truly great unintentional comedy.

Her constant lusty moaning got very awkward after the 666th time while watching this episode with my mother

Re: PIC S1: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1

I wouldn't say Jammer has become cynical over the years. In truth I find it remarkable that he has stayed so objective over the years. It's easy to love Picard just because it's more Patrick Stewart being incredible, it takes a seasoned perspective to not get too caught up in that. Jammer does this very well... as long as he doesnt start griping PIC isn't as good as DS9! (all in fun :)

Re: PIC S1: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 1

I know you have a responsibility to your readers to be critical but I thought this episode was good. Your thoughts on the nature of modern tv are spot on. Really good review

Re: PIC S1: Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2

WOW!!! what a finale. Picards new life was unexpected. I was totally thinking J'rati was destined for synth life but as soon as Picard started stroking out evading the Romulans I knew it would be him instead. Data's "final" death was beautifully done. Not overly sappy but sweet enough to stir up a bit of sentiment.

My biggest question is, how will the revelation of a high ranking Starfleet officer being a radical Romulan dictator affect Federation-Romulan relations?

Re: DS9 S5: Blaze of Glory

I agree Wharf, the implied scene about Morn temporarily losing his sanity really cracked me up. One of the most successful comedy moments in Trek

Re: VOY S2: Investigations

Keeping your prisoner in a room with control over your entire ship is just such an enormous plot hole that is totally inexcusable. How did this get on tv

Re: VOY S6: One Small Step

Of course the premise "is a stretch" its a freaking episode of Voyager. Give me a break. I thought Chakotays choice was relatable. If i happened to discover Paul Simon's secret demos or Half Life 3 were in that Mars capsule I sure as heck would try to tractor beam them out. Chakotay is not a human computer. He thought he could make it out and assumed it would work. The characters in Voy make HUGE risks every episode. It's only realistic that their risks backfire at least once.

Re: DS9 S2: The Alternate

Also the way Dax strokes at the statue lovingly when they first bring the relic back to the station. Very directorally schizoid episode.

Love how this whole episode could have been prevented if they had used their security forces, brig and fire suppression systems

Re: PIC S1: Stardust City Rag

Harsh harsh harsh. Yes this episode is a bit violent but still extremely lightweight compared to most tv today. I liked the "dark future" type atmosphere. Was kind of blade runnery/noir feeling. Plus seeing 7 and Icheb was a fun Voyager callback (with hopefully more to come!) I also liked 7 getting a chance for cold revenge. This is a theme rarely if ever explored in Trek and I feel this revenge killing helps set the tone for the new show. This is not "yesterdays Star Trek" and I guess it's "a matter of perspective" if that's good or bad

Re: PIC S1: Nepenthe

Great to see 7 will be back in the next sode. I really liked Riker and Trois daughter and thought she had a good chemistry with Soji. would love seeing them together again. I wonder, is nepenthe just a one off or will this be a recurring locale?

Re: TNG S3: The Ensigns of Command

Btw, the title refers to an ancient poem. In the context of this poem, the subject lusts for power. "Give me power! give me the 'ensigns of command'". in this archaic context, "ensigns" means "trappings," or "symbols"

Re: DS9 S5: Rapture

I like to think the bajoran guy had a really bad case of tarkalean flu that day and the prophets told the Sisko of this man's suffering. Therefore they told sisko to take mercy on him and let him go home early. Rom can pick up his slack anyway

Re: DS9 S3: Fascination

This episode does have a sense of zany energy about it. A lot of Trek shows seem to have strange tones that are hard to distinguish between serious and comedy. I think the individual's perception factors majorly into this episode especially with the growing age ranges enjoying Trek now. Lightweight, enjoyable epjsde. 4/10

Re: TNG S2: Manhunt

I love silly Trek shows just as much as any true trek fan but this episode simply has too many annoying plot holes to really be enjoyable. Like the mom reading Picards mind during dinner but she doesn't read Rexs mind at the holo bar?

Re: VOY S4: Random Thoughts

The mind meld scene was intense. In fact I loved the whole B plot of Tuvok infiltrating the memory black market. The direction succeeded in establishing a menacing tone and seeing the "darker" side of Tuvok's mind was exciting. 7.5/10 episode for me.

Re: DS9 S3: Facets

I assumed that because Odo can take on other forms, he could in theory, replicate humanoid physiology and become intoxicated on ethanol or ethanol-like beverages.

Also the concept of Trill love is fascinating to me. Sad we only get one scene really exploring this in depth. This was great

Re: TNG S2: Unnatural Selection

Awful episode. Mulder was an awful actor. Head shaking like a bobblehead is NOT a good way to "act emphatic" and the WRITING was even worse. it's like the writers never watched any of the movies and had never heard the phrase "eugenics wars" in trek canon!

Great twist that I did not see coming what so ever. Also great to see Chakotay in a modern warfare setting.
