Re: BSG S4: Daybreak, Part 2

Felt bad for Tory (even though that scene with Chief literally seeing red was my favourite of the whole finale)... Boomer too. I completely understood her bitterness in seeing Athena have what she almost had. Perpetual uncertainty's just a state of mind I'm too familiar with to be so hell-bent on criticizing and savoring the punishment of like the rest of you judgmental pricks. Boomer took judgment like a champ though. With Tory there was just something so inherently miserable about her psyche that I couldn't take any dark pleasure in seeing her choked out. She's such a child in many ways (baby's first taste of power and amorality), and worse than what she did was forgiven. But then I would've forgiven Gaeta too for finally yielding and not going down pointlessly guns-blazing like Zarek wanted. He saved some lives. Well anyway, she wasn't all that fleshed-out I thought, so mostly it was just uncomfortable to see how her storyline ended. It seemed like a wholly unsatisfying role for her actress.

I had no problem with them sending off their technology into the sun for the poetic value of a true ending. Honestly can't tell whether it's just idle shitposting that fans have unironically nitpicked about the conveniences the survivors will miss with their technology as the basis of why this is a terrible finale. Christ, they'll learn to adjust. What a disgusting mentality.

Helo & Athena surviving to the end felt inevitable, but I was surprised and pleased that Tyrol made it out too, even if his decision is to live in seclusion. Tigh & Ellen was another surprise, Tigh as a broken widower felt like an oddly perfect fate and heart-breaking enough that I was so relieved that he managed to restore the old union he had plus more. Tigh is the man! And finally I wish Dualla was around to enjoy their final destination.

One last reminder: Cavil literally did nothing wrong, best part of this final season.

Re: BSG S4: Islanded in a Stream of Stars

Oh Helo. Hurt to see people don't like his actor. He's brilliant

Re: BSG S4: Someone to Watch Over Me

And Baltar's forgiveness is understandable because nobody knew about his gift to Gina. Boomer's sins are all laid out for everyone

Re: BSG S4: Someone to Watch Over Me

The most emotionally devastating episode of the show. "Wh-...What the frak?" I love Tigh.
Poor, poor Boomer. But poor Athena too, having to witness her frakking her husband before stealing her progeny. Nobody gets their shit pushed in like those two.

Re: BSG S4: Blood on the Scales

@RandomThoughts
"As an aside, I was watching Richard Hatch (RIP) very closely, and it seemed as if during some of his scenes, his face got really long, looking like he'd just bitten into a lemon. Then it occurred to me he possibly wasn't really liking his lines. He felt his character, if not a good guy, was at least somewhat good and/or positive sometimes. And when he was telling Gaeta how the winners write the history, it almost looked to me as if he was about to retch. Instead of playing him as at least a shade of grey, he now had to be a bad guy. I think that went against his grain a little, after reading what he thought of Zarek when all was said and done. This is just my perspective, and we can no longer ask him. Your mileage may vary. The only time I thought he looked "normal", was when he gave the half-smile to Gaeta at the very end..."

I actually did kinda get this impression of him lol. The first time I just assumed he wasn't a great actor, but it started dawning on me that the actor may have found his character a ball of wasted potential much like I did. It's cool to see someone else shared this suspicion. I feel a little bad for him, Hatch made a breakthrough going from hating the show for abandoning its roots to embracing its new direction. But now it seems like he's mired in a weird middle ground of wistfulness.

Daily reminder: GAETA LITERALLY DID NOTHING WRONG AND STARBUCK STARSUCKS. I adore Sackhoff but she's just too naturally girly to play the character convincingly. As cute as her little slip-ups are they keep reminding me she's an actor and it somehow makes Starbuck's abrasiveness more annoying. I think Boomer/Athena's actor was much better with the boyishness and she never gets any love, man :(

Best line (besides Roslin's glorious promise to show the mutineers severest lesson in who towers above them): "This was a hell of a ship once." I completely bought Kelly's indecisiveness and felt his anguish, underrated side-character.

Your reviews are my perfect friend-simulator for poring through the show again, thank you so much for your insights and readings.

Re: BSG S4: Sometimes a Great Notion

There's something so sad about Seelix and Gaeta calling for the medic even though it's clear to them she's already long gone. Gaeta's reassurances there pretty much the same futile echo of Dee trying to calm and reassure herself back when she was riding beside Helo back to Galactica.

I love Lee, more than most fans I'd think, but I was annoyed by his complete inability to understand why she did what she did, and how she went about it. I thought to him at the very least it would make some sense, he's shown a tender understanding before. It's oddly appropriate though, for the mostly one-sided romance they had going on that she'd end up leaving him in the dark. Dualla, I...
