Re: DSC S2: Saints of Imperfection

Roddenberry’s vision itself was a retcon and some BS he can me up with for 70’s con audiences. It’s only really ever seen in part of TNG. Apart from that, the whole utopian Trek thing has always been a myth, and if the average Admiral is any indication, Starfleet is pretty morally questionable.

All that being said, Kurtzman has one of the worst track records out there, so it is really difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt. BUT Discovery is just as much proper Trek as DS9 or those movies Gene hated so much.

Re: DSC S1: Choose Your Pain

"Gay scene--sorry, this is not a judgement, just a preference--I don't think gay belongs in Star Trek. It's just annoying. I know there are people out there who live that way and that's fine. But to force it into my living room because I'm a Star Trek fan is beyond annoying. Also, having a romantic couple being already established on the crew is a writing cop-out. The challenge to writing romance is the build-up. If they were truly trying to take a risk, they'd let the relationship evolve naturally during the course of the show. It feels like it was forced into the show by some committee--yea "real" progress."

So yeah, this person doesn't understand Star Trek... AT ALL. This sounds like a letter written to NBC back in the day:

"Interracial kissing scene-sorry, this is not a judgement, just a preference--I don't think black people kissing white people belongs in Star Trek. It's just annoying. I know there are people out there who live that way and that's fine. But to force it into my living room because I'm a Star Trek fan is beyond annoying."

Sorry Star Trek has always been at its heart liberal and progressive. Oh its failed really bad at both, but generally that's what they're aiming at.

Re: TNG S5: Disaster

I've always thought this episode was underrated, especially when compared to other similar Trek episodes. (ie- "Civil Defense".) "Picard is trapped with kids" is such a great and obviouse idea. Plus I always enjoyed how terrible Troi was as a commander. And Worf is just plain awesome here.

Re: TNG S5: Darmok

I've never liked this episode, despite wanting to. Can someone please explain to me how it makes any sense? I mean are we supposed to believe that the Universal Translator knows enough to translate this alien language into English words, but can't figure out these metaphors? This is the Magic Trek Universal Translator we're talking about here. A device that's so good that it even makes the aliens lips appear to move in English. And also has been shown to work many times without ever having encountered a language before. I really want to figure this out! Or maybe we're supposed to believe that all these aliens just speak English?
