Re: TOS S2: The Doomsday Machine

William Windom was amazing in this episode. When they first find him, he is in shock, then anguish. Then on the ship he was essentially a bad guy. Then, in the final scene where he is dying, it was an amazing portrayal of fear and suffering by radiation exposure. Windom portrayed these varied aspects incredibly. Everything else in the show is powerfully done. The story is superb and filled with Star Trek technology (all the engineering tools were shown). The ending with the transporter failing repeatedly was maybe the most dramatic in the entire series.

I'm not a fan of the new special effects. The ones I've seen on Netflix are not as good as in the original series. Also, when the Constellation explodes inside the planet killer, the new special effects are lame. The original version was much better for that final scene. I wish I could watch Star Trek with the original effects.

Re: TOS S1: Balance of Terror

You know what I love in this episode? The exchange between Kirk and Commander Hansen on Outpost 5. I don't know who the actor was who played Hansen, but I think he was great! I also loved the technical detail. "We're a mile deep, on an asteroid of almost solid iron, and even through our deflectors it did this!" It takes vivid imagination, and an attention to detail to write dialogue like that. "And then it fired something at us, some form of high energy plasma. Fantastic power." I just loved that scene, just seems so authentic.

The acting in the original Star Trek was fantastic, as was the music. The music was amazing too, still the best in the history of television in my opinion. Thanks Jammer for providing this forum.

Re: TOS S2: Obsession

I love this episode because it really shows off William Shatner's acting ability. Watch his face closely in certain scenes. When Scotty tells Kirk that they can't maintain speed as they pursue the creature, Kirk just glances at him annoyed and goes right back chasing the creature. Also, when Kirk tells Garrovick it would have made no difference whether he delayed firing or not, look at Kirks face, as he says "it would have made no difference, not then, or 11 years ago." Shatner was amazing in his evocation of complex emotions, and he does not get the credit he deserves for his fine acting.
