Re: VOY S6: Dragon's Teeth

Another great review.

Anyone else notice the resemblance between the Vaadwaur and the Cardassians?

It seems to me to be a cop-out to have all the most frightening-looking races also be the most war-like.

What would REALLY be interesting is to have a harmless-looking race turn out to be the fiercest and more war-like. Thoughts?

Re: VOY S6: Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy

Completely agreed--this episode represents VOY at its best: lighthearted and well-meaning, with just enough Trek-moralizing to leave a pleasant aftertaste.

Anyone else disappointed there was no follow-up to the Doctor's realization of his feelings for Seven in "Someone to Watch Over Me"? I suppose this only goes to support your theory that VOY leans too heavily on the shrink-wrapped finish.

Re: VOY S6: Alice

Watching Tom and B'Elanna bicker every second they are together makes me believe Seven's assessment that romantic relationships are irrelevant.

How much longer can we suspend our disbelief in the supposed chemistry between those two--let alone the premise of genuine feeling?

Granted, they had some delightfully tense scenes in "Blood Fever" and the following episodes, but once their intimacy was no longer forbidden, it seemed to lose all excitement and spark.

I know, I know, I've seen the future episodes and I know how they end up... But still, I can never buy B'Elanna's commitment to Tom. It seems that she's always running off and being her charmingly self-destructive self at the drop of a hat, with little visible regard to Tom's protestations.

Anyone agree?

Re: VOY S6: Riddles

Excellent points. As always, your reviews are insightful and thought-provoking.

I agree that this episode offers an interesting characterization of Neelix. Usually his cheery persistence grates on my nerves, but here we see genuine goodwill.

Though it's true that Tuvok's problem is ultimately so neatly shrunk and dessicated that it would make the Ferengi proud, Neelix's situation at the end is left more open-ended.

I think it brings up an interesting question: who does Neelix--friend to all, confidant to all, gently teased by all--really turn to for support?

Aside from the (let's face it) never remotely convincing relationship between him and Kes, Neelix doesn't seem to have that one "special relationship" that most of the other crewmen do (see: Janeway/Chakotay, Tom/B'Elanna, Tom/Harry Kim, Seven/Janeway).

In "Mortal Coil" we saw Neelix lose the foundation for his continual confidence; how has he regained it? Or has he even?

Such a social being, Neelix is a source of support for many. But who is his support?
