Re: DS9 S5: Let He Who Is Without Sin...

You know, I won't defend this episode, but I've never really disliked it much. More accurate to say that I don't really mind it and find it tolerable in a brain-shut-off sort of way. And I do like the idea if not the execution of the Essentialists because - frankly - the Federation is soft and decadent. This just wasn't the way to raise the point.

I will say that Worf's inability to have a good time isn't a novel aspect of his character - it does all the way back to Redemption Part II at least.

Re: TNG S6: Chain of Command, Part I

I've always found Jellico a refreshing change for the Enterprise, but the whining of Riker and (especially) Geordi about the changes always seemed unprofessional.

Re: VOY S4: Day of Honor

Just saw this one. I'm kinda surprised by the rating, both from the episode itself and the generally positive review. This feels like a strong three-star or even three-and-a-half star episode. I have only the vaguest memory of the previews, though I do seem to remember emphasis on B'Elanna and Tom's involuntary spacewalk.

Otherwise I agree that the Cataati spokesman is a bit oddly performed - slightly unhinged, might be the phrasing - and I wonder if that was the intent.

Re: VOY S3: Real Life

Considering we got not one but two "Fair Haven" episodes (and a sequel to "Demon"!), I think revisiting the Doctor's family at least *once* would've been entirely reasonable.

And I did and still do like this episode, though I don't think I remembered it very well when I first saw it. Admittedly, the same goes for much of season 3 Voyager. I don't know that the family situation is really that extreme (apart maybe from Belle's death), and much of the conflict stems from the Doctor's inexperience and naivety.

Having said that, I find it a bit silly that Belle is both conscious and alert despite a fatal brain injury with active hemorrhaging and brain stem involvement. She shouldn't be breathing on her own let alone awake. It IS a very touching death scene, and such things are not unusual in TV/movies, but that's not what dying looks like.

Re: TNG S6: Realm of Fear

I do like this episode, but then I like Barclay.

@Elliot: You don't like "True Q", "Ship in a Bottle", "Birthright", "Starship Mine", "Lessons", "The Chase", "Rightful Heir", "Second Chances", and "Timescape"?

I remember being pretty excited about the "Descent" cliffhanger too back when it first aired.

Re: TNG S6: Time's Arrow, Part II

Hmm, while I do agree that this isn't the most inventive or gripping of two-parters, I've always liked it. My guess is that this enjoyment turns a lot on seeing the crew in the 19th century setting and - actually - Jerry Hardin's performance. I always really enjoyed his Clemens!

Time's Arrow Part 1 was also the first cliffhanger I remember seeing on TNG (or anywhere). I remember being quite shocked that we'd have to wait the whole summer to find out happened.
