Re: TNG S6: Realm of Fear

Wasn’t Reg insubordinate by directly assembling the senior staff for that middle-of-the-night meeting? Shouldn’t he have requested it through his direct boss, Geordi? I would think Geordi would have been annoyed by Reg’s actions.

Re: TNG S5: Darmok

Great episode, subtle and lyrical. But two things bothered me on my re-watch last night: Picard took a little too much time on the planet to figure out what the alien commander was trying to accomplish, and Riker displayed too much simplicity and brutality in his response to the episode’s events. Sure, he’d absolutely be preoccupied with rescuing the captain, but couldn’t he have at least semi-guessed that something important might be going on down on the planet that he maybe shouldn’t interfere with? That maybe a simpleminded focus on the captain’s safety shouldn’t always be his prime focus? The alien captain might have survived without Riker’s failed attempt to beam the captain out. I’m surprised that Captain Picard didn’t criticize him later about that. Still, a top-notch episode.

Re: TNG S3: The Offspring

Great episode, thoughtful and moving. But to engage in a moment of levity for a moment, not only does Data use contractions in the episode (“I’m” and “you’ve”), but he does so immediately after reminding everyone that he can’t. It’s almost like they did it on purpose to be playful or something.

Re: TNG S3: The Hunted

I wish there was more explanation on how a man can escape from a transporter beam!

Re: TNG S3: The Vengeance Factor

Braka: Your comment about the vagueness of the stun/kill settings on a phaser brings up my own pet peeve, namely the broadness of the self-destruct order. Whenever the computer is asked to initiate a self-destruct countdown, the FIRST thing the computer should respond with is, “Define parameters. Destruct ship only or a defined area surrounding the Enterprise? If the latter, specify surrounding distance.” There are situations where they only want to destroy the ship itself for whatever reason, and situations where they want to initiate a major matter/anti-matter explosion to take a large chunk of space around them with it (like in the deleted scenes of ST:TNG where they consider destroying the ship in order to destroy the huge V’GER structure around them). But they never cover this extra step when doing self-destruct scenes. I guess it would slow down the drama.

Re: TOS S2: Obsession

Great episode. For some reason, though, Netflix is showing the original version, without the new special effects (all the other episodes they’re showing feature the new effects). Not that the original effects are bad.

Re: TOS S2: The Deadly Years

I would have had Kirk voluntarily relieve himself of command before anyone else even suggested it, as he knew he was rapidly declining in ability. That would have freed him up to seek a cure along with the others affected. It would have also prevented the leaden hearing scene. In the end, though, a watchable episode.

Re: TOS S2: The Apple

It would have been interesting to see what Kirk would have done with that society if he wasn’t forced to act because his ship was in danger.

Re: TOS S1: Operation--Annihilate!

There should have been a line at the end where Kirk says something like, “Now it’s time to visit all those other infected planets and see what we can do there, now that we have the antidote.” Would have been a nice bit of closure.

Re: TOS S1: The Alternative Factor

Where was Scotty? Why was Engineering relocated to some broom closet sized room off some random corridor? And yes, it was indeed ludicrous that Lazarus was allowed to simply roam around the Enterprise as he saw fit. Lol, strange episode.

Re: ENT S4: The Augments

Future generations of Soong will go on to create Data? I just assumed that Brent Spiner was playing the same Dr. Soong we've known and loved for years. After all, it's not hard to fathom that the brilliant scientist found a way to keep himself alive all the way to Next Gen's timeframe, where he was clearly depicted as being very old.

Re: ENT S2: The Seventh

The couple of times Archer yelled at Travis occurred when he was preoccupied with intense conversations with T'Pol. Still, kind of rude, but it's not like he was being intentionally mean.

Re: Star Trek (2009)

Actually, if a hundred-and-some-year-old McCoy could make a cameo in the first episode of Next Generation, I see no reason why it wasn't the same Archer we know from "Enterprise" that Scotty was talking about in the new film. He did say "Admiral" Archer, after all, denoting the passing of time and a promotion or two. Of course, Scotty couldn't have been talking about the same dog we saw in "Enterprise", unless dogs live really long in the future, too.
