Re: TNG S6: Chain of Command, Part I

This two-parter really makes me wish that TNG had embraced arc-based storytelling. In today's science-fiction series, Picard's torture and Jellico's command would span at least half a season (and they woudld have found a less-contrived way to get Picard in Gul Madred's clutches. Maybe ambush him while he's on vacation?)

It would have been fun, I think, to watch Jellico clash with Riker and the rest of the crew. Moreover, I think it would have been REALLY interesting to see if Data flourished or foundered as First Officer under the demanding Captain Jellico. Among other things, I wish TNG had featured more episodes where we could see Data commanding the Enterprise.

Re: DS9 S6: A Time to Stand

I thought Quark's scene trying to get the Jem'Hadar to do SOMETHING -- dabo, drinking, holosuites -- was kind of funny.

Re: VOY S4: One

Did anyone notice that Tuvok is missing when the crew is being put into stasis? Or am I missing something myself...

Re: VOY S3: Distant Origin

The Aesop about scientific theorizing was great, but that scene in the holodeck ("Show how it would have changed with evolution!!") makes my head hurt.

Re: VOY S5: Bride of Chaotica!

I both agree and disagree with Jammer.

The agreement: We spent far too much time with the technobabbling Voyager crew. I didn't need the subspace sandbar metaphor. I also didn't need the extraneous, hackneyed "ship is in danger and running out of power" scenes. "We can't move the ship because CHAOTICA! is at war with photonic life forms and we can't turn off the holodeck AGAIN" should have been enough.

The disagreement: I thought the humor was pretty darn good. The guest stars chewed black-and-white scenery with gusto, and Kate Mulgrew's expressions during her conference with Paris (and during her performance as Arachnea) were a scream.

If anything, I wish we'd seen more interaction between President Doctor and the photonic aliens. I also would have liked more from Tuvok. Tim Russ was a scream as the Vulcan straight man to 1930s sci-fi cheese.

Re: TNG S7: Gambit

This episode made me think of all the great "Data in command" plots we could have had over the years.
