Re: BSG S3: The Son Also Rises

Re: Mark Sheppard's accent

I remember having a net conversation about it when BSG was originally airing. I suggested that it was Irish and an Irish person replied that it didn't sound anything like Irish to him/her.

I think it could be his actual accent or close to it. I remember reading somewhere online that his parents are Irish but he grew up in the Cockney-speaking part of London. BTW, most people seem to think that his accent in Firefly is cockney (to my non-native English speaker's ears that suck at recognizing English accents).

As for everything else: This episode left me a bit confused. I didn't really "get" what the writers were trying to convey, but I agree Sheppard steals the show and has truckloads of screen presence and charisma. Final verdict: I don't necessarily get it, but I like it. I was certainly interesting, and it introduced an interesting, complex character.

Re: BSG S3: Taking a Break from All Your Worries

I find this discussion about Baltar's responsibility especially interesting, since I've been going through these episode reviews and just a little while ago I was in the episode where Helo stopped a genocide and most readers were ready to jump the hate-train to I-Hate-Helo-ville.

In Helo's case: Hey, enough with this academic bull about moral aspects of a genocide! We're talking about survival here!

In Baltar's case: Hey, enough with this 'He needed to do it to survive.' We're talking about the holy necessity and nobility of standing on higher moral ground here!

Just something to ponder about.

Re: BSG S2: Downloaded

Amazing episode. I have one small (and extremely silly) nitpicking issue with it:

Shouldn't the process of transferring into a new body be called uploading, not downloading? Clearly the dying/dead body must be the one that starts the transmission, not the new body in the bathtub.

Re: BSG S2: Pegasus

Truly great episode. Having seen the entire series, definitely in top 5.

Most of what I could say about it has already been said in the review and the comments, but I'd like to add a point another reviewer made: The "you can't rape a machine" is faulty logic: if physical abuse of a Cylon isn't the same thing as with a human, it would be entirely pointless to even do it. If it can have any hope of working as interregation tactics, then it must be a rape by any meaningful definition of the word.

Re: BSG S2: Home, Part 2

Dork Knight is right about the constellations. They are not where the colonies are, they represent them. Frankly, Im dumbstruck that someone could be capable of NOT understanding that at this point of the series.
