Re: DS9 S7: Field of Fire

To be honest with you, Afterimage and this ep are the only two times Ezri was ever tolerable to me.

It makes me wonder what could have been done to handle Ferrel's departure, cause after all is said and done, no, ultimately I don't think Ezri was the answer. Maybe bring in Odan from TNG? I understand they didn't want to lose the momentum and connections built up over six years, but what we got instead was something of a mess.

Re: DS9 S4: Hard Time

Something of a guilty pleasure, because while I love it, I feel bad THAT I love it since its one of those "Lets Torture O'Brien for His Spotlight Ep! [TM]" eps which I *typically* hate. But Colm Meany is such a good actor and he gets to flex those acting muscles here that one can't help but like it.

Re: DS9 S1: Babel

I thought this was a fun episode. Defiantly silly and not one to be taken serious, but still, I always get a kick out of it.

Re: DS9 S4: The Muse

I didn't mind The Muse. Didn't care for it either. Its firmly in the middle with me. I wouldn't turn it off if it came on TV, but if I had the box set I might never watch it. Its a firm "meh" to me. Half because I actually dislike any and everything Lwaxanna. Other half the idea of a Muse as presented her is fine even if the execution is so so.

Not sure I'd put it on a Top 10 Worse DS9 eps, and if I did, maybe #9 or #10.

Re: DS9 S4: Broken Link

Odo's facial appearance is something akin to, I guess, genetic memory. All Founders in their "default" humanoid form look similar, facially, to Odo. Or rather he looks similar to them. He *thinks* its a limitation, but its not. I think its more of a mental block that the show never explored, but all Founders have the ability to mimic another humanoid perfectly ("Heart of Stone", "Apocalypse Rising"). Odo either can't or won't. But make no mistake it is some sort of mental block, as evidenced by the older Odo in "Children of Time".

As for the "magic" of making Odo "human". Its not magic, its remote genetic configuration. Bigpale above said, "The hundred have a kind of homing beacon built into their DNA which draws them to the founders homeworld, where ever it may be. Odo went to the Omarian Nebula because that's where they were." Agreed. But I think the beacon works both ways. And it was essentially used to FREEZE Odo into a configuration that closely approximates that of a human. It simultaneously severs him from the Link and makes him effectively for all intents and purposes, human. Since it severs him from the Link, it cannot be undone remotely by the Link, hence the events of "The Begotten".

At least that's how I saw it. Regular Founders (i.e. not Odo) can already change their body type to mimic that of a humanoid both inside and out, that is why they were so hard to detect when in those forms. Odo can't/won't (mental block(?)) so they simply did it FOR him and then broke the lever so to speak so he can't change back. Plus kept his Founder face as a sort of reminder of what he lost.

Re: VOY S6: Equinox, Part II

If IMDB is to be believed, they are making a TV movie spun out of this two parter. Surprised me but I'm game. I think its gonna be along the lines of Renegades.

Re: DS9 S3: The House of Quark

I enjoyed this ep a lot. I think of the things I liked about it was that it showed consequences for Quark's actions plus a very pleasing resolution.

Re: VOY S2: Twisted

"DLPB - Mon, Mar 3, 2014 - 7:33am (USA Central)
If you ignore the silly premise of this episode, and the fact Kate Muldrew sounds like she is having an orgasm at one point, it's actually a pretty entertaining episode. The show needed more character interactions like this, but sadly, they did away with the whole Federation v Marquis angle early on."

I agree with this, and its also one of the reasons I like this episode as well.

Re: DS9 S3: Civil Defense

I remember at the time saying while the premise is a bit absurd (this should have happened early in season 1 (third ep tops), not in season 3, as this "civil defense" would have LONG been deleted or overwritten by that point) its nevertheless a great bottle ep. One of my favorite episodes, in fact.

Re: DS9 S3: Fascination

If they sold a DS9 box set, this ep and "Profit and Lace" should be separate from the rest and put on one disc as a "free coaster". At least that way you'd technically have all eps if you're a completest.

Re: DS9 S5: Let He Who Is Without Sin...

I guess I'm in the minority but I actually enjoyed this episode a lot. Its not perfect (not sure how I'd grade it...2 and a half stars?) but I was entertained throughout. I guess I tend to like filler/fluff eps with Worf. Plus I was a big fan of Worf and Jadzia's relationship, and this provided context to further that along.

Honestly the only two eps of DS9 that are 100% unwatchable to me is "Profit and Lace" and "Fascination". Beyond that, I can even find favor in Quark-centered eps (easily my least favorite character). But luckily DS9's stellar eps far outway their so-so eps.

Re: DS9 S6: Profit and Lace

This is probably the one DS9 episode that I have never seen in its entirety. And hopefully I never will. The synopsis alone makes me want to stay away.

I couldn't stand Neelix but I have to admit this was a good ep.

Re: VOY S7: Endgame

I've always felt like Endgame was like a redux or poor man's version of All Good Things + First Contact. It didn't feel like Voyager. At this point Voyager was content repeating some of the things that made TNG great so I'm not exactly surprised, just disappointed. The finale should have delt with the Caretaker in some way, IMO.

Even though the books aren't canon, I think a few of the post Endgame books, some of their story elements could have been worked into a great finale for Voyager. Ah well.

Re: VOY S2: Tuvix

Its just now dawning on me, years after the fact...couldn't they have used transporter technobabble to make two Tuvixs (similar to William and Thomas Riker) and then separate one of them back into Tuvok and Neelix? And then an episode later create some in-story reason why he decides to travel the stars alone, thus never seeing him again for the rest of the series?

A cop-out? Perhaps...but not the first nor if this had happened would it have been the last. Its just that ending (the "180") never set well with me. In this scenario, Janeway would still be a murderer: either Tuvix original or Tuvix duplicate would be separated so Tuvok and Neelix could live again. But at least some form of Tuvix would live as well, instead of just his memory. Plus we'd get an extra episode of Tuvix interacting with Tuvok and Neelix.

And real world analogies (with if your friend or wife had been combined, etc) doesn't really apply cause the same mode that combined them can do other wonders like what I just described.

I don't know, this is one of those rare eps that I like but I feel like the final act is kinda half-baked.
