Re: VOY S3: Real Life

"I sincerely hope that this family storyline is here to stay. It absolutely has to be seen again, otherwise the writers are missing their own point. Judging by the ending, Doc's family can't simply vanish any more than did Miles O'Brien's family on Deep Space Nine. These characters must come back, and there needs to be a follow up to the events that happened here."

Boy, retrospect sure stings on Voyager.

Re: VOY S1: Caretaker

"Moore's other often-quoted idea was that the whole series should have been like "Year of Hell", and while that was a good episode, 170 more fo the same would have made for a very depressing show, one I would not have been interested in watching. I like Star Trek for its positive depiction of life in the future, not to see a galaxy populated with hostile aliens."

But that's exactly what Voyager gave us, isn't it? A whole quadrant full of hostile aliens. There are 170-some Voyager episodes and the majority of them (especially after season 3 or so) conclude with a ship-to-ship firefight. And the violence is pointless, generally. It's always because one side or the other has been hardheaded. It's always weightless, too, because no major characters are ever hurt for long, the ship is usually shiny by the beginning of the next episode, and we never, EVER see any real consequences to Voyager's actions. If that's what passes for an optimistic future - meaningless violence with little hope of resolution - count me out.

Re: VOY S4: Message in a Bottle

Why would the Doctor's program be lost? Why isn't there Ctrl-C in the future?

Re: DS9 S6: Valiant

Interesting how this episode is kind of a mirror image of Star Trek 2009. You have the overconfident rookie captain taking on a near-impossible mission after the more experienced commander is incapacitated.

Re: ENT S1: Broken Bow

I've probably seen this episode 3 or 4 times, and yet I can't remember the plot to save my life. That can't be good.

Re: VOY S2: Second Season Recap

DS9 had a rock-solid season 2 as well. No matter how you cut it, DS9 always compares favorably to Voyager.

Re: VOY S7: Seventh Season Recap

These days, I wonder if any Trek series would survive for long if it incited this level of web rage. 2001 doesn't seem like so long ago that the producers would just tell the fans to take a hike because the ratings are good enough. And now it seems that DS9 has gotten its long-overdue props, while Voyager languishes deep in fan hell. Of course, DVD has a big part to play in that, but really, isn't the ratings mindset why network TV is dying?

Re: TNG S3: The High Ground

The High Ground - "This is one of those rare episodes of TNG where, by the end, essentially nothing has been solved. Sure, Crusher and Picard have been rescued, but the cycle of violence will continue, and the episode doesn't pretend that the situation can be fixed simply because the Enterprise was here or Picard came in and made a pithy speech."

I didn't get that. IIRC, the ending has Crusher saying "No more killing" and the last kid with a gun slowly lays it down, for no reason other than she said so. If there was anything after that suggesting that the violence would go on, I sure don't remember it. I just remember that pitiful oversimplification.

Re: TNG S1: Conspiracy

This is a real minor thing, but if The Neutral Zone and Conspiracy had been swapped in the running order, what a sendoff that would have been.

Re: BSG S1: Flesh and Bone

If DS9 has a champion of The Box, it's Duet. It's 10 times the episode that Waltz is.
