Re: TNG S5: I, Borg

What i thought was missing from this episode was an acknowledgement that the borg, to the extent that they are in fact a race, are a race of victims OF THE BORG. The whole episode focused on the rightness or wrongness of exterminating them as borg - and never touched on the fact that they are all assimilated individuals who had a life pre-borg. I was annoyed in the early stages with Crusher arguing that it was wrong to exterminate the race: they are an artificially created race! I was also annoyed that no one ever questioned whether it was wrong to exterminate them if there was a chance that the former-individuals comprising the borg could ever be restored — or took the position that it was RIGHT to wipe them out, so no one else would ever have to suffer that same fate.

To me, this episode, while very watchable, ignored the most interesting question. Oh sure, well and fine to liberate locutus from the hive, but the rest of them are just a hive-mind, now and forever..

Re: DS9 S6: Far Beyond the Stars

Wow...I knew that this episode would happen eventually. Star Trek has a legacy of talking about the issues from a subtle, detached and light-handed way, but this was so heavy handed and in-your-face that I almost stopped watching it.

I don't care to have present day political garbage thrown in my face by a sci-fi show, so I must agree with Nick P. to an extent.

Star Trek does contain political, societal, and humanitarian messages, but they are delivered with more class and intrigue than whatever this garbage is.

So far, worst episode of DS9.

Re: VOY S3: Worst Case Scenario

I've been rewatching all episodes after many years and found this one very good. I liked Tuvok lines in the mess hall. I agree with that the second part took a wrong turn. Somewhere before that I was really enjoying the episode and was asking myself, how will the novel end? Only to be disappointed with the typical.
