Re: VOY S2: Resolutions

john> no she didn't. she was basically explaining the prefire temperature (prior to firing) was off for the ship's phasers. I still laughed though. if you still want to crack a joke, it would be that he couldn't fire at all. he's got ed... :(

Re: TNG S4: Final Mission

This show always was irritating to me. A shuttlecraft designed to go through SPACE, with all its extremes, is not going to turn into "an oven" after landing on a planet. The whole dang thing was ridiculous.

Re: VOY S1: Cathexis

It's all been said. Boo, needs a rewrite.

I liked the dark bridge atmosphere of the ship to set the tone, LOVED Janeway back handing Tuvok, and I loved her hair.

I laughed at the multi stun. whoops.

Re: VOY S6: Virtuoso

This quote by a poster had me thinking. It could have been a larger rating had the writers shown growth in the crew or more so the aliens . I'm not usually a fan of "Our way is better than yours we shall show you.' but I really wanted that female alien to really get that you can be creative and intellectual. That there's validity to the use of expression and creativity. She could have been the catalyst for change for her society. Instead it was a doc lesson ep where I don't think he needed.

"I believe the heart of the theme is that you can't cut creative expression out of your
society. Otherwise you'll end up dry, emotionally stunted and sorely lacking of a way to
connect with others in a way that transcends simple verbal communication. I believe that
having the Qomar's speech patterns and interpersonal interaction be so stilted and
awkward was done on purpose to illustrate this very idea."

Re: VOY S7: Renaissance Man

Steinway> I didn't mention it but yes, I suspected it was the doc when Janeway started stammering on the bridge and using a hypospray on Chakotay. He was easy prey to such a tiny woman :-) I mean really? He couldn't shove her down? :-) If the doc had done a subtle seductive move to get him from behind, yes, but front attack, Chakotay looked very whimpy to me.

Re: VOY S6: The Haunting of Deck Twelve

I like this episode. I didn't in its original airing because I knew there were only so many episodes left that I remember groaning. Now that I can only choose reruns I warmed up to it.

Re: VOY S7: Imperfection

I thought the same thing, Caine. I guess our obsession with micro technology waxes and wanes in the 24th century. I expected anything in the cranium to be very small. Also, Janeway was just returned from Borg, why the writers didn't make her the one to hand over a node is surprising. (not really)

Actually, I think this episode would have made a great Tuvok/Janeway episode if one of their nodes failed and the other saves them. It would solidify to the audience this supposed friendship that was mentioned a few times in season one. Tuvok would get more air time and less seven. yay.

Re: VOY S1: Prime Factors

Ric > I disagree. Let me explain my pov even if we reach an impasse. If anything it shows the writer's/acting in a synergy. They tend to write the characters so wooden it's hard to imagine if they experience any emotion. She's with a trusted friend in this scene ( which has come into question), not staring down the barrel of a gun of an antagonist pleading for her life. It shows she's not invulnerable. She's more believable and still is strong in my eyes. If she looks weak it is when she makes choices that make Cpt Ransom's point.

Now, my pointless contribution about the episode: I was so glad for part B of the story. I was put off by the alien immediately and couldn't see why Janeway was so seduced by him (Or maybe she was faking) I feared it'd be a pointless shore leave ep. Without the holodeck this time. I was pleasantly surprised.

Re: VOY S5: Once Upon a Time

I am just glad they brought in Naomi. She wasn't a discarded character unlike her mother. She didn't join the borg baby in the Forgotten Crew Dimension!

Re: VOY S5: Bliss

I enjoyed this. love the guest star.

I found it all too convenient for Naomi and the drone not to be seduced. At first, I fell for their reasons, but why couldn't this telepath show them what THEY desired?
You mean to tell me the beast can't handle multiple orders?

example : wouldn't Naomi be under spell too of say, her mom being present in her life(hehe) or being a captain s assistant? No, I guess not. One vast connected dream per bite for the beast.

Re: VOY S3: Macrocosm

I remember liking this the first time now, wth was I thinking? Probably what any 14 year old girl thought: girl Capt kicking ass for a change.

I could have lived without the close up of Chakotay's infected colony ridden neck. *shudders*

Re: VOY S3: Sacred Ground

I don't think this episode was meaningless. It showed character development for Janeway and another Alien race who I judged initially the way the crew did. Alien. It has become meaningless because we don't see or hear Janeway reference the experience ever again. An opportunity might have been Scorpion part 1 or Omega directive.

I thought it was a great addition on R.D.Mcneil's part, to add the scene where Janeway is disrobed to symbolize vulnerability by removing her science/suit of armor.

Re: VOY S7: Renaissance Man

I enjoy watching this episode. I didn't like its placement so close to the end, it was so anti climatic as Endgame was approaching. Since it's been 13 yrs since it first aired, I've started wondering what ifs

remembered how annoyed we were at the lack of consequence for Janeway when she made bad calls? It's human to make them but it's obnoxious when she is elevated to impeachable status every other cliff hanger. Anyway, I had a thought, would you all s*** your pants if we saw continuity from Janeway's "pretend" assimilation? I would have not seen it coming if the writers had Janeway or the doctor recall Janeway having Borg shielding intact from her unimatrix days. Have her walk through their shields like water and say those immortal words to those unsuspecting potato men. Now that is an ep :-)

Still bothers me seven and the queen were written to have 99% cybernetic bodies and Picardo, but most of all the command trio, do not. Had they not shown Seven to be metal with human flesh, I might have bought the senior officer restoration. I think Janeway should have walked through the alien shields :-)

Re: VOY S6: Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy

Oh, I was sooo entertained by this episode back in the day. I remember when Janeway put the Doc's hand on her back end and curling my lip in disgust then laughing my butt off because the camera cut to Paris making the same face I did. I am so happy to know Mulgrew suggested and it was approved to be added. It was awkward but fun. Did Mulgrew feel a little left out hence the suggestion? I can see her say something like, I adore Picardo, but there is the political view of Janeway where she's still feeling out if he's to be treated as an equal. let me have a fun scene with him since my character is often annoyed by him."

Pon Farr scene had me in stitches.

I love the concept of the ECH.
"Nice touch."

Fun, fun episode.

Re: VOY S2: Resolutions

I disagree. There was no reset button. Look at Mulgrew's face in the final shot. She's trying to be the reset button :-). But we know better. And their unshakable friendship is dabbled throughout the series thereafter.

"I can see their fears of this turning into a soap opera if they follow through with this
romance, but that just shows their own limitation as writers."

mmm, actually blame Mulgrew on that note and the writer's lack of ability to pull off a complex connection beyond sex. If the writer's weren't hinting at sex but a beautifully orchestrated connection between j/c as comrades out of the gate vs tossing her in bed, I think Kate might have more readily gone along for the ride.

Re: VOY S2: Twisted

I like the character interaction but it stops there. The twisting ship thing was something I couldn't find plausible. But there could be something far beyond my comprehension in science that could make this happen. It reminded me of the barreon sweep (sp?) in TNG only without the real danger that they die if they touch it. (ie Janeway was caught in it she didn't)

Re: VOY S2: Elogium

Arghgh. "too" I would love an edit button. Trying to figure out why my tablet keeps garbling my words. I am hitting the keys but maybe it's so quick it isn't registering and I get missing commas and strange auto corrects. I need a real keyboard. I bet Janeway doesn't have to backspace constantly on her PADD.

One more thing about this episode, I don't buy genetic compatibility between Neelix and Kes. Just because every alien they encounter is humanoid doesn't determine compatible mate. This bugs me. I would have preferred the stress of her freaking out then coming to terms then the relief as the bugs moved on, without the B plot of the gross idea of neelix getting laid.

I do buy him as a father when he has character growth in the last seasons but now? eww no.

Re: VOY S2: Elogium

I was 14 when this aired. It was icky, brainless, and awkward then and still is now. One scene was memorable when I realized Janeway doesn't have a star fleet stick up her butt that I mistook her for in the first two eps. (I missed a lot of episodes when show started) She can be warm and surprisingly maternal. (A little two maternal in late seasons ) but...that s me analyzing everything.

Re: VOY S6: Ashes to Ashes

I change my mind. Rewrite this with Harry Kim dying back in Scorpion and returning as the reanimated alien. :-) I would have loved to see his character interactions with Paris and Janeway. We'd have no Timeless but if done well he'd rock this episode. Or stay on as the alien and attempt timeless in another season and kill everyone and debate reanimating (lol) but ultimately going back in time. Then they could have got around that awkward "We can't fire him he was the token asian dude for People's beautiful people!"
