Re: DS9 S6: A Time to Stand

Unfortunately, this episode introduces the character of Admiral Ross who ranks as one of the all-time blandest officers in Trek. Insipid performance from '....'(he doesn't deserve a google) and horrible casting. What is their problem with finding a half decent Admiral with a bit of charisma? The Admiral in Rapture was equally useless. If you notice, most Admirals' dialogue consists of platitudes and dull soundbites, as if the writers aren't even interested in them. I think Necheyev was one of the few fleshed-out and well written/acted Admirals. I just can't see someone like Ross rising through the ranks to the top. It's the same with the rest of the Federation Executive. Jaresh Inyo...zzzzzz.

Re: DS9 S5: Rapture

Great episode but I found it quite jarring that Sisko had to placate that admiral (deserves an award for bland characterization & bad acting).

So the stuff dissolves the transporter pad and doesn't make a welcome hole in Neelix's chest?? Dire, dire episode.

Re: Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Did anyone notice that the sound effect used for God's howl is exactly the same as for the alien who Kirk kicks in the knee-crotch in Undiscovered Country?

Re: ENT S1: Broken Bow

I'd choose being stuck in a lift with Neelix over being at the opposite end of the same ship that had Malcolm Reid onboard.

Re: VOY S6: Fury

Don't think I've ever heard the term 'rape' tossed around in reference to male characters, or so casually in a discussion. There's a little too much relish in its use by people here towards JL and it comes across as more than conceptual expression.

Re: VOY S6: Fair Haven

@Brian O'Connell

Agreed, on the one hand we have reality (Chief O'Brien) and then they smash us in the mouth with this lephrachronic tripe. The worst vandalism was when Colm Meaney had to personally endure this racial torture during Up The Long Ladder.

Re: VOY S6: Pathfinder

The way earth is generally portrayed in Trek, it's pretty hard to empathize with Voyager's crew being hell-bent on getting back there at all costs. It's a horrendously dull place full of dullards. Lifeless surroundings the colour of bland.

Re: VOY S5: Course: Oblivion

Actually, the log being found would have wrapped the episode up in that schmaltzy, hackneyed and cloying fashion that VOY is so regularly guilty of. I can see the awful closing scene in my head of Janeway, with that awful sentimental longing gaze, staring at her monitor while Kim speaks his unimaginative last.

I was glad that the chaos of the universe won out, even though that's not the outcome my heart wanted. A rare success for the writers.

Re: VOY S4: The Omega Directive

This was one of the most repetitive, pompous and badly acted episodes I've ever seen. High on its own weak concept. If I hear the term Omega again, there will be red shirt casualties.

Re: TNG S5: The Outcast

I think it's wishful thinking that it's a transgender allegory and that what resulted owed to the fact that the writers didn't have the balls to openly cover homosexuality.

Re: TNG S5: Conundrum

The most unbelievable aspect to me, was the idea that Troi, with every aspect of her character presented to date, was capable of besting anyone at
chess, let alone Data.

Re: TNG S2: The Dauphin

I suggest doing an addendum to each review, episode by episode of how the extras are handled in TNG. Call it 'Extra Lense'. I love this show but the general direction of their behaviour and responses is preposterous. In this episode Worf primal screams on the brudge and nobody even turns to look. Classic.

Re: TNG S2: Elementary, Dear Data

The removing of the paper from the holodeck by Data proves that Moriarty could leave the environment. I assumed this was an inconsistency, not part of a deleted plot-line.

Re: TNG S7: Genesis

For some reason I find Riker's grumpy eye-rolling reaction to Worf's torpedo masturbating at the beginning to be hilarious. Guilty pleasure episode.

Re: DS9 S6: His Way

These characters deserved a better resolution than this. I could barely stay awake. DS9 and treacle don't mix especially with as complex and interesting a character as Odo. Vic Fontaine was the singularly the worst addition to the show and for them to make him recur weakened the last season especially, in my view. And he can't sing.

Re: DS9 S6: Honor Among Thieves

This was awful. The characters around O'Brien were lifeless. The sets were nondescript. The plot was tiresome. Don't understand the 3 stars, I'd have given it a zero.

Re: DS9 S6: Favor the Bold

Kira certainly gives Damar a proper near-fatal beating. Very visceral performance by both actors; her uppercuts ans his facial responses. He actually looked like he had been brain-damaged before he went down.

Re: DS9 S5: Children of Time

The older Odo pretty much behaved like the rest of the Founders; putting their self-interest ahead of pretty much anything else. It's as if the writers were saying that Odo's destined to turn out like them in spite of his current associations and friendships.

Re: DS9 S5: Ties of Blood and Water

Anyone else think that the recurring character of Kira's real father is incredibly annoying? He comes across as dizzy and weak in every episode that he features in (well at least the two that I recall, this and 'Wrongs Darker than..').
