Re: DSC S1: Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad
I"m tired to be labeled as a naysayer or a hater just because i don't like Discovery or jj's movies. You like them ? Fine have fan and leave me alone in my grief fror a dream that has died

Re: DSC S1: Lethe
Right now Discovery has:
on IMDB: 7.3 which is not bad but it's lower than any other trek show on imdb
On rotten tomatoes (viewers not critics) 58% like it
on Metacritic (viewers not critics): 4.4 (out of ten)

Re: DSC S1: Context Is for Kings
@Peter
"I'm starting to get what's going on with Discovery. They wanted to promote a Trek show where they didn't have to do Trek. They wanted to do a prequel where they didn't want to be stuck with prequel canon. In other words, they wanted to' do whatever the heck they wanted - i.e. a reboot that still nurses on fandom from old shows, to have their cake and eat it too. In other words, a marketing ploy."
That's exactly what they did.

Re: DSC S1: Context Is for Kings
I will not take part in this discussion about Discovery being star trek or not. I went down that road before with JJ's movies ( for those who don't know i was against these movies) and it was a very unpleasant experience. So i will not do it again.
Judging this episode from what Discovery promised to do i give it 2 stars. The episode made me feel upset and sad. This is not what i expect from a star trek series.

btw on both rotten tomatoes and metacritic critics seem to like Discovery but the viewers not so much.

Re: DSC S1: The Vulcan Hello / Battle at the Binary Stars
It is true that one major problem of these episodes is that they completely failed to make us feel engaged with the characters. The only i really liked was captain Gheorgiou and they killed her.

Re: DSC S1: The Vulcan Hello / Battle at the Binary Stars
Let me say it straight: the last thig i wanted to see in a new star trek series is a war with the klingons. They were allways cardboard villains ( allthough DS9 tried to give them some depth ). Unfortunately the new klingons are even more so. After all even in a prequel series there were so many stories to tell why the klingons? And if the whole season will be about this war why not rewatch BSG? What more there is to be said about war, fanaticism etc beyond BSG?
The sow's name is Discovery, the name of the ship is Discovery ( or at least it it will be from the next episode ). And exactly what they discovered? the Klingons?
I don't mind the change in the design of the ships ( unavoidable in a 2017 show). But i still try to find the theme of this show. The first episode had, occasionally, some depth but no defining theme came out of it. The second was an action episode. It was well acted (mostly not allways) with impressive visuals (allthough, unfortunately with lens flares my god why they do that? ) and some promising moments. I suppose i must wait for the next episodes to judge. But it is propable that Fuller's departure left the show in the hands of people who don't know exactly what they want to do.
2.5 stars from me.

Jammer
as omicronpetatheti said if you are starving then you are not much interested for the quality of the food. I'm simply very very tired with dark and gritty science fiction. which is the only kind we see the last 10-12 years.

I really enjoeyd it. Not because it was great ( it was not) but because, finally, i saw an optimistic future. I' m so tired eith dark and gritty visions of the future.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery
Not impressed. I don't mind the changes in the uniforms etc but i do mind the wooden acting and dialogue. And it seems that it will be a show with klingons (which btw are horrible).

I don't know why these people are trying so hard to promote this as something "very different". "different" in what?

@OmicronThetaDeltaPhi
I agree but i don't think there is even one producer,writer whatever who is interested to do such a show.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery
I know that social media are not a representative sample of, the propable audience but 1 and half year after the annuncement of the new series the Discovery page on facebook has 57000 likes! From millions of trek fans only 57000 seems to be interested! Well that's too little.

Re: TOS S3: For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky
I rewatched this episode yesterday after, at least, 10 years. It's another case of a great idea (the generation ship and its society) which was wasted by the execution. Wouldn't it be more interesting if for example Kirk &co have found a residtance to the oracle by some of the people and a society torn by social unrest rather than the dull McCoy-Natira romance?
2 stars from me.
