Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

If you're willing to fill in a few gaps with some unspoken dialogue then there are no real issues with the end at all.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

My only real gripe is that Leia appearing at the end makes no sense given that she should have appeared earlier in the movie during the Rebellion meetings. No problem her being at the battle, that makes sense. She's a soldier. Tucking her away to save her was a bit naff though.

Watched this again yesterday and I have minimal issues. It's a fun film, my 8 year old son was enthralled and he loved the Vadar bit at the end.

Rate this in the top 3 of the Star Wars movies.

That said. I always liked him. His interactions with Riker are brilliant.

Outsider65 - The same boy who played his nephew in Family.

Get your point though, it's taking too much effort for him to mimic Patrick Stewart and it comes off hokey.

I love the scene where Riker over complicates the running of the ship.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery

Surprised to have not seen the stuff in that video mentioned on the numerous movie/TV sites I visit.

I'm going into this with positive vibes despite it not being what I wanted the next series to be.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery

Jason Isaac playing the ships Captain.
Excellent actor and quite a choice considering the captain is a secondary character.

This casting is impressive.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery

If you watch this video and don't get a little trickle of hope and excitement then I think you should just give up with Star Trek already.
Which I imagine, sadly, many people probably have already.

Tara: Two words... Trek Fu.

It is long established that puny humans can knock the shit out of just about anyone by clenching two hands together and cracking someone on the back of the head.
Karate chops are also devastatingly effective against everything from a Borg to a Breen!

So yes, whilst other other species are stronger. They have not been trained by Ross Geller in the arts of "Unagi!"

Tanner: The Borg haven't even assimilated all of the Delta Quadrant yet and that is their "turf".
Always wondered why they're opening up fluidic space when are still three quarters of the galaxy to be assimilated.

This is thrown into further chaos by Voyager and it's Transwarp hubs which mean the Borg can technically launch a load of cubs at any planet and take it over.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Why wouldn't Leia be in a battle. She's part of the rebel alliance (and a traitor), she's not some pen pusher on Alderaan.

Sonequa is part of the ensemble main characters on TWD and has always carried herself well and holds her own against the rest of the cast.

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Loved it.

Don't feel the need to defend it from peoples nitpicks etc. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I must say though. When the film finished, apart from wanting to see it again right then, I felt like I could just put on A New Hope and it would follow perfectly.

@Mikey - Jesus. You don't want to be next in the holodeck after all the singletons have just piled out.

Ugh... Not without a mop and a bucket.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery

I don't get it though. A Klingon Captain when it has been well established Worf was the first Klingon to serve in Starfleet...

That said, when I first saw the teaser their were Klingon musical motifs and also the ship has a Bird of Prey vibe about it... This would make sense if it was in the TNG era but this is what... 10 years before Kirk.

I'm confused. Would love to see a Klingon Captain on Federation ship.

Captain: "Helm, ramming speed!"
Helm: "For space dock?"

Watched this again recently and raged.
This film treats fans the same way Enterprise's "These are the Voyagers" did.
It shits on everything.

Re: VOY S5: Dark Frontier

Why was kid Seven of Nine playing with a Borg Cube? That indicates more than a rumor. Especially as the Borg Cube as a concept was a complete surprise to Picard and the team when they encountered it.

No... Ooh this sounds similar to the Borg theory that was knocking about 20 odd years ago.

All they had to do was drop in a line about hearing about them from an El-Aurian and not have a model cube and it can make a bit more sense.

Re: VOY S4: Year of Hell, Part II

Apologies if this has been mentioned.

Right at the end there is a little exchange.

This is disputed space.

Fine, change course to avoid their territory.
If they'd done that at the start of the first Day 1 none of this crap would have happened. Why the mind change?

Re: DS9 S7: Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges

Not seen this one before either. Seem to be doing my Sloan trilogy now!

Loved it. What I really liked is that this touched upon some of the fan controversy of Section 31 by framing it against the almost perfect Federation citizen, Bashir. The line about Section 31 being there because people like Bashir are too idealistic is brilliant and it makes loads of sense,
I’ve always maintained that the Federation cannot just be some wet pacifist organisation as they live in a Galaxy with Gorn, Tholians, Romulans, Klingons, Borg, Breen and countless other threats. An organisation like Section 31, no matter how un Federation, HAS to exist.
The senate scene was excellent, I was genuinely on the end of my seat wondering how it would pan out (I knew it would end relatively well as I have seen the end of the series). Great interplay with Bashir and Sloan. Love seeing another Intrepid class ship. Enjoyed the off the record chat with Bashir and Ross even though it was obvious Ross was working for them.
4/4 easy.

Now for the final 10 parts!

Re: DS9 S6: Inquisition

Had never seen this one before!

Yeah, really good. Being roughly aware of what it was about I was hoping that during the interrogation things like Bashir’s time in the prison camp or his wish to surrender to the Dominion would be brought up. Well that and more. Really appreciate writing like this which credits the viewers with an understanding and knowledge of the characters.
Must admit I thought the beam over to the ship/holodeck happened when he was ”busted” out by Weyoun. As soon as he arrived there I said aloud “Holodeck!” It was only when I looked at the script this morning I realised the whole thing was set on the holodeck.
Sloan was great. William Sadler is an excellent actor and portrayed him really well. I read that Martin Sheen was considered as well. Would have been pretty awesome too.
No qualms with the existence of Section 31. Makes sense for any society that has a military capacity, and Starfleet is that, would also have a side that does the dirty work.
Easily agree with Jammers score and I’d be tempted to knock it up to 4/4 just because of the cleverness of the writing.

Re: DS9 S5: In the Cards

The reason “intelligent” people watch this show is because it is intelligently written and it treats its viewers like grown-ups. It constantly refers back to the episodes and appreciates that the main viewership is those that tune in regularly. It is not written for the casual viewer.

Don’t think I have ever genuinely commented on this episode. It is a lot of fun. I never found it gut bustingly funny but if you can watch this episode without grinning there is something wrong with you.
Like all Trek you have to let certain things go, Starfleet citizens not having money for example. Especially as in other episodes you see Starfleet crew wandering around with loads of latinum they’ve just won playing Dabo.
Anyway, good lightweight episode and at least a 3 out of 4… Possibly 3.5
